It was a typical day inside the Piazza dei Priori. Trials were held, debriefings for the guards, lunch, and the newest secretary fired and disposed of. Only one thing was different, Caius was no where to be seen. He was not at the trials or made an appearance at lunch.
Nobody suspected anything for they thought he was with his wife, Athenodora. They all knew when he decided to visit her he would go missing for a day or two so it wasn't a problem. No one suspected he would be with the princess watching Disney movies and playing fairy tea party.
Caius sat with a plastic crown on his head and sparkly hot pink tutu watching The Princess and the Frog with his niece for the 85th time that week, but he didn't mind. Caius's film covered red orbs looked to the side where Marcus daughter, Aubree sat her ocean blue eyes fixated on the screen.
Caius smirked watching his niece enjoy her movie. He remembered when Marcus first brought her to the castle. She was small for a one year old, covered in bruises and had a busted lip. Her clothes hung off her small frame and Caius could see her bones, but her eyes shined brightly with a childlike innocence and wonder. She walked up to him with no fear and told him in her broken baby speech that she liked his hair before climbing into his lap. Caius held her as she drifted off to sleep, perfectly content in the vampires lap. He swore that day that he would protect her at all cost and that she would never have to experience what she went through again.
Marcus entered the room as the movie ended and his dearest little Aubree grabbed her uncles hand before tugging him to her little table for another tea party. Marcus put his thumb to his mouth trying to contain his laughter at the site of his brother wearing a tutu. That color definitely was not flattering on the platinum blonde vampire.
Caius looked up once hearing the stifled laughter near the door. He looked over to see his brother trying his best not to laugh. He was never going to hear the end of this. He knew Marcus would tell Aro and before he would know it would be the talk of the castle.
Marcus, while trying to contain his laughter, spoke, "Aubree Joy."
Aubree looked up from her play to notice her father. "Daddy!" She exclaimed as she ran towards the man who picked her up with ease.
"My dear," Marcus said, "I'm afraid I have to take your Uncle Caius away."
Aubree began to pout, she always enjoyed when her uncle would play and paint with her. Who would she have fun with now?
As if reading her mind Marcus smiled, "I brought someone else to play with you."
He opened the other French door revealing Demetri. "Demetreeee!" Aubree shouted as she held her arms out to the tracker.
Demetri smiles and took her into his arms holding her gently before walking into the room. It was no secret that the princess had him wrapped around her finger, often times he would trade shifts with the other guards so he could spend time with the human he viewed as a baby sister.
"What would you like to play Angel?" asked Demetri as Caius took off the play items and exited the room.
"Dollies!"
Once the doors closed Marcus laughed.
"It appears you have gone soft brother."Caius glared his coven mate who was leaning against the wall laughing hysterically. "I have not."
"Sure you haven't," Marcus replied with venom in his eyes.
Caius grew quiet as they walked. "Oh," Marcus said, "I'm telling Aro about this."
Caius snapped his head towards his brother who took off through the halls laughing. Caius gave chase. To make a long story short, Aro found out and told everyone, including the human staff! Needless to say, everyone now knows Caius has a soft spot when it came to his niece.
