ch 46 : get your filthy hands off of her

Start from the beginning

You beamed at George before you looked back at the dancing doe and breathed, "Isn't it beautiful, Georgie?" Your eyes followed the blue creature and the trails of blue light that flowed behind it as it moved about the room.

George nodded and agreed, "It's magnificent. What did you think of?"

"Oh, just all of my favorite moments of course," You happily told him, starting to notice everyone watching you with curiosity. You chewed on your cheek and let your gaze drift over to your bespectacled brother. You blinked rapidly when he was watching you too, but he was grinning widely which made you relax a little.

As everyone else slowly began to try the process for themselves, Susan sidled up next to you and wondered, "Have you even struggled with any of these spells we've been learning? It feels like you've gotten all of them on the first try."

You just shrugged and tried to think of a counterexample, but you came up empty. You knew that the spells weren't easy, but you had just been focusing on what you wanted to do, which made the spells successful. You hadn't thought anything of it. Harry was a good teacher after all.

After a couple attempts, Ginny soon conjured her Patronus, and George followed his sister's lead. Your attention was drawn to the blue magpie fluttering through the air. Your doe strutted up to his magpie as the two interacted with one another. The magpie perched on the doe's head as the doe happily trotted around once more.

George looked at you with wide eyes and an open mouth. You crushed him in a hug and cheered, "Oh, that's beautiful!"

Slowly, around the room, the other members of Dumbledore's Army began to conjure their Patronuses. You beamed at the proud Harry as everyone became filled with hope watching their Patronuses come into being that day.

Just then, there was a strange pounding noise on the far wall near the entrance. Everyone stopped what they were doing, and Harry and a first year named Nigel shuffled forward to investigate the noise. The chandeliers shook as the pounding continued, and you took a deep breath to calm your racing heart.

When the wall began to crack and splinter, Harry rushed away from the wall with the boy. All the other students readied their wands as the wall was blown down to reveal Umbridge and her Inquisitorial Squad.

Your eyes connected with Draco's. He looked at you briefly before he stared down at his feet with a grimace. George gripped your hand as the two groups stared at one another.

Umbridge scanned the room with a scornful expression and commanded, "Get them." As the Inquisitorial Squad invaded the room, Umbridge's eyes fell on you. She clucked, "Oh, what a pity. I had hoped you weren't as foolish as your brother, Miss Potter, but I guess I was wrong. There's just something rotten in that family line of yours."

You blinked hard as you stared at Umbridge with the fiercest glare you had ever delivered. Harry tried to rush forward at Umbridge for this comment as he growled, "Don't ever talk to my sister like that." Before he could reach Umbridge though, Percy Weasley grabbed the back of his robes and began to drag him from the room. The rest of the Weasleys in the room were glaring daggers at their older brother as the rest of the Inquisitorial Squad grabbed onto the members of Dumbledore's Army.

When Draco grabbed onto your arm to remove you from the room, George, Fred, and Ron all pointed their wands at the blond boy. George snarled, "Get your filthy hands off of her, Malfoy."

Draco didn't let go despite the numerous Weasleys threatening to curse him at that moment, so you took a deep breath and commanded, "Please. I can walk myself from this room just fine."

Draco finally let go of your arm. You took a deep breath before you walked with Fred and George out of the room. Draco watched you with regret as you moved out of the room with a power in your step and a determination in your eyes.

You walked with your chin up and your being on fire as you marched past the Inquisitorial Squad. You knew that Umbridge may have won this battle, but she certainly wouldn't win the war, and you would make sure of that.
