So, I had almost finished this chapter and Wattpad didn't save it. I had to rewrite it and is, therefore, a little short.
Katsuya shivers, huddled under a blanket as the helicopter carries them to the mainland. Holes burned in the bottom of is pants expose his ankles to the torrential sky wind. "So uh... what happens now?"
"A police investigation," Seto answers without hesitation. "Duel Academy is finished,"
"Are you sad?" Katsuya asks, biting his bottom lip in worry. Seto doesn't handle anything well.
Katsuya looks up at the ceiling and feels an arm wrap around his waist. It pulls him close, acting as a protector. "It was bound to happen sooner or later,"
Katsuya smiles, aware of how inappropriate that is. "You'll need to find something else to do,"
"I have some ideas,"
Of course, he does. Katsuya bites his lip. Seto owns a company, with dozens of offshoot companies. That's probably why he seems so flippant about the destruction of his private island.
It suddenly occurs to Katsuya that he just lost everything. He lost his job, his things, his father's ashes. For some reason, he doesn't care. It's fine. It's all fine. My dad was a bastard anyway. I shouldn't have kept his ashes.
In a bay on the Californian coastline, the helicopter glides to a landing. Katsuya's eyes brighten, he thinks the ground here is as bright as the sun. The buildings dazzle like starlight. He didn't realise he missed the mainland so much.
"This place is amazin', huh?"
"We had the same views back in domino," Seto shrugs.
"Not in my neighbourhood, we didn't,"
"Oh," Seto looks away quickly. He only went to Katsuya's house once, and even then, he didn't venture inside the apartment building. The crumbling ruins of derelict buildings and the river of slime that flowed through the street told him everything he needed to know. "I'm sorry," I keep fucking up.
"It's whatever," Katsuya walks to the railing of their helipad, perched like a bird's nest atop KaibaCorp HQ. He feels a presence approach but continues looking out, his hair blowing in the wind. Seto appears beside him and a calm settles over the men.
"What about you?" The billionaire looks down at him. "What're you going to do?"
"There ain't much I can do," Katsuya stares down at his hands that hang from the railing. "Duel in the mid-leagues, maybe? Become a strategy consultant for Yugi's game company?".
"The delusional brat ended up making his own games after all," Seto pretends to discover - Kame Game is actually one of his biggest competitors in the gaming industry now.
"Yeah... but something could persuade me to stay," he looks up at Seto who returns his gaze, apprehensive.
Seto chews his lip as he gazes out at the city he practically owns. He couldn't see the old Seto Kaiba taking this bait, but now... what is there to lose? "How would you like a job as a games tester? You've gotten quite observant and there are always glitches to be uncovered," he justifies.
"Me? Work... for you?"
He sees the incredulous look on Katsuya's face. "Tch - just forget it, Wheeler,"
The shorter man starts laughing. "You're so easy to tease!"
"Does that mean-?"
"Yeah," Katsuya grins. "I'd love to stay here and work for you. As long as Mai gets a job too!"
