Hank turned back around, his voice steady. "I want you to head to Med and get a victim statement from Ruby. And ride with Upton. You two will be partnering together. Jay, you'll ride with Kim," he said before walking into his office, the door closing behind him.

Jay pushed himself off his desk and started walking toward Hailey, who was already heading into Hank's office. He paused, glancing back at Rojas. "I'm really sorry, I didn't mean for this to happen," she said, her voice laced with concern.

Jay gave her a reassuring smile. "Don't worry about it. You didn't know this was going to happen, anyways."

Kim, noticing the awkward silence hanging in the air, spoke up with a warm smile. "Welcome to Intelligence. It's going to be nice having another female joining us."

Hailey soon emerged from Hank's office, giving Rojas a welcoming smile. "Hey, we'll figure this out. Let's get to work." She nodded towards Rojas before the two of them left the bullpen together,

Jay and Kim stepped out of the car, walking up to the house, the street quiet except for the distant hum of traffic. Kim glanced at him with a smirk. "Ten to one she's not home."

Jay shook his head, already knowing the outcome. "No bet," he replied, not wanting to lose another round.

The moment they reached the gate, a shout rang out. "Somebody help! Help!"

"Stay alert," Kim murmured, and without a second thought, she pushed open the gate. Both of them pulled out their guns, rushing toward the voice.

"Body!" Kim called, her gun extended, scanning the area. Jay kept his weapon aimed as they neared the male neighbor who had yelled for help.

"Hey! What'd you see?" Kim barked at the man, her eyes scanning the area.

"Somebody ran that way," the neighbor said, pointing to the right.

Jay nodded sharply, adrenaline kicking in. "5021 George—roll one ambo to the 7300 block of Hamilton," he called into his radio as he sprinted down the alley, checking both sides. His finger rested on the trigger, ready for anything.

"Copy that," the dispatcher replied. But just as he turned to return to Kim, he heard her voice again.

"5021 George—cancel the ambo," Kim said, her tone grim as she looked down at the body on the ground.

Jay joined her, eyeing the lifeless woman sprawled against the fence.

"It's horrible," Kim muttered, and he could tell by the tone in her voice that they were both feeling the weight of this case. "This is Ruby's room. Was... oh my god."

The roommate, a young woman who appeared in shock, was standing just outside the door, tears streaming down her face. "I—I can't believe this is happening."

"How long have you lived with Ruby?" Jay asked, glancing around the small, cluttered room before focusing back on the woman.

"About a year," the roommate replied, her voice trembling. "But I haven't seen her since yesterday. I don't... I don't know what happened." She shook her head, struggling to get the words out.

Jay exchanged a look with Kim. "Nobody came to the door? She didn't leave with anyone?" he asked, keeping his voice gentle but firm.

The roommate wiped her eyes, sniffling. "No... I haven't seen her with anyone. Not since yesterday."

Hailey stepped forward, her expression hardening. "Is she involved with anyone? A boyfriend? Any guy you've seen her with?" she asked, her gaze sharp.

The roommate hesitated. "No... no boyfriend," she repeated, her voice quivering.
