KAYLA
Brielle had apparently decided to surprise Ebony and I, her favorite nieces, alongside her superstar husband Jaivion Williams.
We were both caught red handed as the married couple bursted in after our classes had ended.
Neither of us knew what to do, as we'd both been caught with our boyfriends beside us.. until Ebony lied saying that the men were simply guards for us, which I quickly agreed to. Even with them lying beside us in bed, Jamal without his tie and probably his shirt soon if Ebony hadn't been interrupted and Hakeem in an undershirt and pajama pants, we always tagged along with one another.
Jaivion and Hakeem had a short and tense introduction after the former had practically stared down the latter. The same went for Ebony's boyfriend so I thought nothing of it.
When Hakeem returned to my side, wrapping his arms around me again and obviously unintimidated by the new presence, Brielle peppered us all with questions on the boys' real identities.
The two of us eventually cracked under pressure but forced Aunt Brielle to swear to secrecy, which led to the married couple quickly taking their exit.
"You better call me with any details," Brielle demanded as Jaivion, who seemed more than eager to leave, guided her out of the room, "and I mean any!"
Upon their dismissal, Hakeem became relaxed again, only heightening my earlier suspicions. I tried to grill him, especially about the rigid introduction to Jaivion, but he avoided my every attempt.
"Just leave it, Kayla," he demanded suddenly, "I don't want to talk about it."
It didn't take long for our study-makeout session to be cut short by him stuffing his belongings away and ducking out of he dorm room, seeming aggravated. I was left guilty, thinking I'd done something to unintentionally hurt him again, so I followed. I caught him speaking to Jaivion through the driver side window of the couple's SUV at the front entrance, their exchange heated but spoken in low tones nonetheless. It reminded me of the conversations Hakeem had with my dad in the classroom and the gym.
However, before I could make any move, Jaivion caught me and gave Hakeem a quick farewell; quickly rolling up his window and speeding off and out of my vision with Brielle in the passenger seat speaking with furrowed brows.
Hakeem turned to me with a scowl, making my curiosity about the exchange melt away in favor of my wrongdoings, "what did I do wrong?" He seemed a bit confused by my question, and I found myself rambling, "I know I'm still learning, but I shouldn't have put you on the spot when you were clearly uncomfortable. I was just worried about you—"
Somewhere in the mix I'd apologized profusely, which caused a smile to spread across his face before Hakeem quickly approached me and pressed our foreheads together, "you didn't do anything wrong. I just got a mess to clean up."
I almost asked, but he kissed me into silence.
