KAYLA
I was called by my mom to return to the flat for a check in on Saul, and I arrived just in time to see the doctor removing the stitches from the scarred yet healing shoulder.
Saul saw me and held the other arm out to me for embrace this time, "I got another scar, sis."
I laughed through my tears, "it'll make you look so manly, Saul."
The two of us smiled sadly and I quizzed him on what happened; Saul revealed that he was walking with his friends when Red's apparent replacement suddenly came from around a building he'd passed, yelling "tell your brother to keep his mouth shut" before shooting him near the clavicle and narrowly missing his vital underlying muscles.
Gianna turned to her husband, "you haven't even assigned them guards yet?!"
Dad clenched his jaw, "they need to be the best of the best, ma—"
"Then hurry up! If you risk my children again, we're all going to the house!" Mom said, with finality in her voice, before coming to Saul's side and murmuring apologies and sympathies to her wounded child before kissing both of our cheeks, "Kayla, come with me, we need to talk."
She eyed me a bit more before leading me into my old bedroom, stopping her nosy husband & my even nosier father from following by locking the door in his face.
"Your father may be too wound up to notice, but Saul isn't the only one with a few new bruises," She muttered while motioning around her collarbone.
"Mama!"
"Just please tell me it wasn't Terrel?"
I quickly refused, my stomach twisting at the mere thought of being intimate with that idiot,
"Good, then hop in the shower and get dressed. I need to get some makeup to cover those; hickeys on you is all your father needs to see before he loses his mind during this situation."
I agreed and we spoke about Hakeem as my mother disguised the love marks, "your scar is nothing to be ashamed of, Kayla Nicole. if it were up to me, I'd take all the scars from you and Saul and place them on my body. I never should've let you two free so soon, especially without the proper talk—"
"It's not your fault mom, it's their's."
Mama cupped my face, "remember that when you look in the mirror and see that scar again, babygirl."
I nodded and mama pulled me back into Saul's bedroom, "now it's your turn, young man. We need to make sure that wound stays dry, though, so let's cover it up."
My mind wandered as I observed the doctor teaching her mother how to properly wrap the bandage, oblivious to who her husband was, before I suddenly remembered Hakeem; "shit!"
When Hakeem answered the phone, he sounded as if he was in the car, "you scared the fuck out of me, Princess. Where are you? Are you okay?"
I smiled from my bed, "I'm fine, and I'm at home. I'm sorry for scaring you."
Hakeem noticed the tone of my voice as always, "what's wrong?"
