Locked Inside The Depths of The Mind
I froze at the sound of her voice.
"Can you hear me?" It echoed, "I need you to listen to me. I know you have no reason to trust me, but I need you to come back. Thomas, you can save Newt."
I glanced back at him.
"There's still time for him," she continued, "There's a reason Brenda isn't sick anymore. It's your blood. Do you understand?"
I glanced at Thomas.
"She isn't sick, because you cured her. She doesn't have to be the only one. All you have to do is come back and this will all finally be over. Please, just come back to me. I know you'll do the right-" She was cut off by the power going out.
I watched Thomas closely, wondering what he was going to do. He turned around but stopped in his tracks. I followed his moves. Newt was standing and facing the opposite direction ominously.
"Newt?" I muttered.
He turned his self around. His eyes were bloodshot, there was black drool coming out of his mouth, and veins spread over his skin.
"Newt?"
He let out a loud growl and launched himself at me. Quickly reacting, I gripped his shoulders and threw him back behind me.
"Newt? Newt, it's me. It's me!"
He ran at me again and threw me to the ground, sending us rolling. He hunched over, more drool coming out of his mouth.
"Jessie, kill me!"
"Newt, I'm here."
He jumped up at me, again knocking me to the ground. His hands flew to my throat and wrapped around it.
"Newt, please!"
He stilled and calmed down.
"I'm sorry, Jessie."
"It's okay, it's okay."
He groaned, reached down toward my thigh, pulled out the gun strapped to it, and held it up to his temple.
"No!" Thomas screamed and knocked it out of his hand.
Newt screeched once again. I pushed Newt off of me and gasped for air. Suddenly, Newt swung back at me, sending a sharp burning sensation across my forehead. I hissed, but the action was soon interrupted by him pushing me down and jabbing a knife at my chest, which I quickly blocked. He erupted into a roar, pushing the knife farther into my chest. Blood started to trickle to the surface of my skin. I screamed in pain but got enough adrenaline to knee him off of me. I looked for Thomas, but he was nowhere to be found.
Newt was hunched over again, panting rapidly, "I love you, J."
I turned to face him, but before I could reply and started to swing his knife again. Left, block, right, block. He ran at me, allowing me to move his arm where the knife couldn't hurt me. Newt froze, stopping his actions in trying to kill me. He grunted and his body released its tension. I stepped back and looked down. The knife was in his chest.
"Jessie," he said, collapsing to the ground.
"No, no!" I screamed and went down with him.
Then, the world stopped. It stopped turning, stopped making noise, stopped existing. At that moment, the only thing that existed was him and I. The whole world was slowly fading. My heart was thumping in my chest. My hands were an earthquake threatening to swallow up a town. I sprawled over him, tears streaming down my face. I screamed, and screamed, and screamed.
"No, no no! Newt!"
I bawled like a baby. I couldn't hear anything, I didn't care who saw, I didn't care who came. I sat there and cried, for what felt like hours. I wanted to do nothing but sit there and stare at him.
YOU are bad...
We tried to warn you.
Why didn't you listen?
YOU are bad
YOU are bad
YOU are bad
YOU are bad
"Stop it!" I screamed and tugged at my ear, "Get out of my head! Leave!"
I gripped my hair and screamed as loud as I could. A hand shook my shoulder. I shoved them away.
"Go! Leave me alone! Don't fucking touch me! Please! Just leave me be!"
"Jessica!" Minho screamed.
As if it were magic, sound found its way back to my ears, my vision stopped being blurry, there were other people in the world, and it was definitely spinning.
"Calm down," Minho's voice cracked.
"I can't, I can't!"
"Please, I'm so, so sorry,"
I sobbed harder, "Get away from me!"
I stood abruptly and jerked myself away from them.
"Don't you understand? Can't you hear the voice?" I sobbed, "It's been ringing in my head for months now. It was a warning! I am bad! I am bad! I am bad! I killed Newt, I killed everyone from the maze, I deserve to die!"
I grabbed Minho by the collar and pulled him close.
"Kill me, please," I mumbled.
"I'm not going to kill you," Minho said.
A tear rolled down my face, "Please, it would be the only way to stop this."
"You didn't kill Newt-"
"I did! I should've listened to my gut when it said to not fall for him because I knew he would hurt me. I'm so fucking stupid!"
3rd View
The group loaded up into the berg with the kids and set out to find Thomas. They left Newt's body behind and yet somehow manage to handle weeping Jess and convince her to go with them. She sat at the end of the seats and stared at the floor. She didn't feel like talking to anyone at the moment and she sure as hell wasn't going to.
"I think I got him!"
"Yeah, that's him. I'll get the hatch."
Jess heard from the cockpit, but, their voices seem to echo. It was as if she could see the soundwaves bounce off the walls and write out in big letters, 'FUCK YOU.' The people before her rushed around. She knew she should've helped, but she couldn't bring herself to do it. Instead, she decided to drown out the voices, let herself be vulnerable, and grieve for the loss of her boyfriend.
