Chase and Marshall took a deep breath. "We were very young when it happened..." Chase started, explaining the incident.

-Flashback-

Chase (a much younger version of himself) was barely waking up. That day seemed like any other day. Chase woke up and found himself on a younger Ryder's bed. Ryder wasn't Chase's full owner, but he was pretty close. Chase was one of the three family dogs at the time. Ryder wasn't more of his owner than Ryder's parents were, but Ryder and Chase got along great. It was just a few months ago that Chase was born. Chase's dad, Max, had just come back from being a canine troop for the marines. When he returned, he met Chase's mom, Roxy, when he was on a morning jog with Ryder's dad, Justin. After that, Roxy became part of Ryder's family and Chase was born shortly after.

When Chase was born, he was scared of Ryder and his parents, but they earned his trust quickly. Ryder and Chase started to go to the park and play and they became best friends. Chase's parents were talking, and they agreed that Chase should go to school just like Ryder. But instead of going to a normal school for pups, they wanted him to go to a training camp where he will learn the same things as in a normal dog school, but will also learn about how to help others. (AN: This is the training camp that pups in real life take to train to work as military, police, search-and-rescue, and firefighter canines, but I am modifying it so they also learn about all the other pup jobs in the Paw Patrol). Chase started going to that school and has been going for a month when he met Marshall. Marshall was a shy pup back then. He didn't talk much to anyone. Chase one day saw Marshall sitting alone during lunch and decided to talk to him and be nice.

"Hey," Chase said as he was walking towards Marshall. "How are you doing?"

"You talking to me?" asked Marshall. "Um, I'm doing fine, thanks for asking?"

"No problem," said Chase. "So I noticed you were sitting here alone so I decided to say hi."

"Thanks," said Marshall. Chase sat down next to Marshall and they started talking, and that was the start of the brotherhood that lasted forever.

After that day, Chase and Marshall did everything together. They pushed harder than anyone else. In just three months, they pushed each other until they became the strongest and fastest pups in the entire camp. It was the fastest anyone has reached that point since their fathers did it long ago. Ace and Max were best friends when they were Chase and Marshall's age, but they lost contact when Ace started working as a firedog and Max went overseas in the marines.

Everything was going great. Chase and Marshall became the best pups in the camp and after a year, they were ready to graduate from the camp. Everything changed, however, a week before their graduation. Chase woke up like every other day before then. He got ready and went to the kitchen to eat breakfast. Once he ate his breakfast, Ace and Justin took him to the school. When he got there, Chase noticed Marshall waiting for him at the entrance.

"Hey, Chase," said Marshall.

"Hey, Marshall," Chase replied. "You ready?"

"Always," Marshall replied. Chase entered the building and went to their room, where they learned about safety and security. Chase and Marshall were going to sit down they heard an explosion. Chase and Marshall, as well as some other pups in the room, ran over to the window to see what was going on. There was an explosion at the fence of the yard. A truck came into the yard and ran over some of the equipment. Behind the truck, two other trucks showed up. Some soldiers exited the building Chase and Marshall was in and confronted the attackers.

"What are we going to do?" asked Marshall.

Chase thought about it. Everything they learned up to that point has prepared them for something like that. "I got an idea," said Chase. "We let's escort all of the pups here to safety. The safest place would probably be in the other building in the basement."
