It's been a while. Now it's Tuesday.
Yoongi had shown up every day ordering the same drink. He was like all the other customers in the shop, except he knew what was going on between the workers. And all he worried about was Namjoon.
He got to talk to a worker named Hoseok once. He learned that Hoseok really liked to dance and that he and Jimin used to go to each other's places and make up random choreography together. That made him wonder what Namjoon liked. Did he like to dance too? It made him realize how much of a mystery Namjoon was to him.
It was hard to talk to him since one of the workers seemed to be like his personal bodyguard. Yoongi didn't like it, and he didn't understand why he wasn't allowed to talk to Namjoon anymore. That's why he waited for Tuesday because he knew that Namjoon had the night shift. No personal bodyguard, he's free to talk.
Yoongi got to the cafe at 21:50. Once he went inside he saw that the cafe had no one there. The atmosphere was still the same as the last time he remembered it, which helped soothe him even if he didn't need it. The feeling that the cafe has seems so different depending on the time of day.
He saw Namjoon once he got to the counter to order.
"Hello again, Yoongi hyung." Namjoon greeted him. "Would you like your usual?"
Yoongi nodded and took out his wallet to pay. "That would be great. Thank you."
Once he paid, Namjoon began to work on the drink. Yoongi decided to start a conversation this time since it's one out of few chances.
"So um..." He tried to think of something to say. "What are you majoring in?"
"Literature," Namjoon answered. "How about you? If you go to college, that is."
"Music theory and composition."
"Oh really?" Namjoon asked with shock. "I've always wanted to make music."
Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows. "What's stopping you?"
He shrugged. "My parents don't support the idea. Last time I tried, they broke my stuff so I could focus on school."
"Oh."
Namjoon grabbed the finished coffee and placed it on the counter. He smiled warmly at Yoongi's guilty expression.
"No need to feel bad about me," Namjoon told him. "Be happy that you got to pursue what you've always wanted. It's not like I hate literature."
Yoongi nodded and grabbed his drink. He still couldn't remove the guilt he felt. If his parents were to have done that to him, then Yoongi would have no idea where he would be right now. He has a lot to look up to.
"How do you do this?" Yoongi asked.
Namjoon furrowed his eyebrows. "Do what?"
Yoongi couldn't figure out how to word it, but stopping his brain somehow helped him figure it out. "How do you go through life without looking like you have any hardships whatsoever? The entire world would be jealous of you if they could see you."
The worker smiled. "Maybe I'm just good at hiding it."
"But I know what's going on." Yoongi continued. "You miss Seokjin-ssi, all your friends seem a bit off, you aren't even learning what you actually want to, yet you still try to do the best you can. Don't you feel like giving up?"
Namjoon didn't say anything.
Yoongi then got worried he pushed it too far. It just shocked him how much Namjoon was going through. If he went through the same stuff then surely he would've hit rock bottom.
"When you put it like that..." Namjoon trailed off and then chuckled quietly.
"I'm sorry." Yoongi muttered, feeling guilty for reminding Namjoon of reality when he was doing so well avoiding it. "I didn't mean to say that. I should've used a different example."
"It's fine." Namjoon told him.
His eyes were glossy.
"I guess it is a bit hard." Namjoon admitted. "I'm starting to realize that none of my friends really want to talk to me besides Hoseok hyung, but even he barely talks to me anymore. Never really felt alone until now."
Yoongi gave him a nod.
Namjoon decided to continue. "As I said, I don't hate literature. I kind of wish that I took it as a minor instead and was able to take music as my actual major like you. Can't change my parents' word though. It doesn't really help that now I can't find any support since I don't have anyone to talk to about it."
"I'm here."
Namjoon looked directly at him with a hint of confusion. Or was it shock? It seemed more like shock. Yoongi knew that that would be the result of his words. Even with that knowledge he still felt a bit shaken by the reaction.
"You're my-" he swallowed. "Friend. I'll be here to talk to you. You have my number anyway."
It went silent as the pair stared at each other. Yoongi wrapped his hand around the cup but didn't move it. There was something about the way Namjoon looked right then that made him want to stare for just a little longer. Like a getaway that'll fall back into reality the moment he looks somewhere else. It was only his eyes that felt a connection to him. He didn't realize it.
Namjoon smiled. "Thank you, hyung. That means a lot."
Yoongi's jaw went down like he was about to say something but then decided to continue to stare at him. Well, more like into space.
He didn't realize his eyes slowly became sharp, but Namjoon did. The glare made him uncomfortable so he looked away. That made Yoongi blink back into the world.
His face flushed a bit as he lifted his cup from the table. "Well, uh, see you soon?"
Namjoon looked back over at him with a similar look on his face. "Yeah. Uhm... see you soon."
Then Yoongi left. Namjoon then found comfort in the idea that someone would be there. Never replacing Seokjin, but still could be there.
No one would replace Seokjin.
