It's often that things seem worse than they actually are. Sometimes that's what makes a situation feel so terrible.
But for me it wasn't like that. It's more or less the opposite. I refused to accept the worst.
"How's he doing?"
"They're still digging a hole for him in the backyard but-"
"That's not what I asked."
"Keigo he-....I don't know how he's doing."
"Ok.", my voice dropped a bit, hints of annoyance in my tone. "Get out then, Katsuki."
"Wait but-"
"I know they sent you in here to tell me you guys were almost done. I'm still not going to see you bury him so get out and leave me alone."
"Look.", he sighed. "I had a friend that died too so I know it's hard to accept but-"
"He's not dead.", I stood up and faced him, my expression empty and angry. Fury was all I felt for everyone around. "Anyone who tries to tell me otherwise will be killed."
"Hawks.", he furrowed his eyebrows, hurt. "Please try to understand. I know you think it was your fault and I get it but-"
I grabbed the pistol I had accidentally shot Dani with and cocked it, aiming it at his head and firing two shots into his skill. He didn't react. He couldn't. Not when his brain didn't work anymore.
He fell to the ground but my expression didn't change at all as I stepped over him and left the room.
Before I went any further, I held it to my head and closed my eyes, ready to kill myself in an instant.
Though, as soon as I pulled the trigger I only heard a click.
Damn, it's empty.
For once, it hurt so bad that I couldn't think of any way to bear it. I couldn't scream it out, I couldn't cry.
I jogged down to the garage and grabbed a large gasoline can, tossing the cap off to the side and pouring the gas down the halls of the house. By the time I was done, I poured the rest of it on myself and sighed.
Matches. Dabi had some in his bag didn't he?
I quickly checked his bag, finding exactly what I'd been searching for.
"What're you doing?"
Who's voice is that? I can't even remember.
"Keigo. Answer me."
I turned to the door, seeing Ashido standing there with worry on her face.
"Hi."
"What are you doing?"
"Take his bag out of the car. It's got his guns and stuff. You'll need them."
"Did you kill Katsuki?", she glanced down at the body and then back at me.
"Yeah. I did."
"Keigo I-....I don't know what to do..."
"Leave.", I lit one of the matches and stared at the flame, ready to drop it onto the floor.
"Are you insane! I'm not leaving! You can't just-"
"Or rot in hell. I really don't care what you do Mina."
"So that's it? You're just gonna give up?!"
"Yeah. I am."
"That's not what I want for you.", she shook her head, clasping her fist around the match and putting it out even though it burned her. "I don't want that for anyone."
"Then that's entirely your problem. Get the fuck out of my sight before I kill you too."
"Way ahead of you.", another voice came from the doorway again, Mina freezing in place as a loud gunshot rang through the room. I watched her hit the floor, revealing the man I loved standing above Katsuki's body. "Let's go."
"You-....am I hallucinating again?"
He gently eyed the gas can on the floor, smiling softly as he picked it up and doused his clothes with the liquid.
"W-wait-"
"I promised we'd go down together, didn't I?"
"Toya...but you-"
"It'll be fine. Just close your eyes. It won't hurt so bad if you know I'm here."
"But you're not...you-...you can't be."
"Shhh.", he gently grabbed ahold of my hand and made me light a match, dropping it to the floor as soon as it lit.
Within moments, I blinked and he had gone from my sight. Fire engulfed my body, forcing screams through my throat.
I know he's dead. I've known since I woke up.
But..
I didn't want to believe it because he was all I had. Apart from Sora, he was all that loved me.
The little dog was outside so I wasn't worried about her dying. Only me.
I want to believe he's still here. Even now.
