As much as I tried to pry, Morgana didn't share any specific details of how this sacrifice was going to go down. Somehow I knew it wouldn't be good.
Images of my still beating heart being ripped from my chest like in Indianna Jones and the Temple of Doom flashed before my eyes making me feel nauseous.
"Where's Talon?" I demanded, trying to shake off the grisly image. Morgana turned to face me then, a pointed look which said: Like I would tell you. She continued to stare at me, apparently lost in her thoughts.
"You really love him, don't you?" She said quietly, surprising me. I nodded, wondering if Morgana had ever loved anyone.
"He could have killed you when you were trying to break the hold his blood-rage had over him. I never thought you'd be so stupid as to face it directly." She said, almost whimsical, coming down to kneel in front of me again.
"Because I love him and trust him completely." I said, meeting her eyes evenly, searching for any sign of the young girl from the memory I'd seen.
She inhaled sharply, her eyes turning into daggers.
"Well, you two lovers will get to leave this earthly existence together." She said, lightly slapping my cheek. I glared, trying to burn a hole in her beautiful and deranged face.
Morgana left the tent shortly after that, singing about business to be attended to.
It was clear Talon and I were to be kept apart until the sacrifice which left me alone with my thoughts, going over everything Morgana had revealed.
I didn't know if I preferred knowing or when I was in the dark. Everything felt bigger and even more out of my control now.
At some point during my wonderings, Matthias appeared, cut my hands loose and manhandled me up from my post. He dragged me from Morgana's tent, the anti-magic shackle still in-tact.
The sun had gone down again, telling me in a couple hours the Winter Solstice would be upon us. For once, the dark sky and bright moon looked foreboding and not beautiful.
As Matthias dragged me through the forest, I tried to sense where Talon was. I hadn't felt any pain through the bond so I knew he was okay, though I couldn't be sure they hadn't tortured him in the hours I'd been unconscious.
What does it matter? They're going to kill you both tomorrow anyway! A pessimistic voice at the back of my head shouted.
Matthias dragged me along with him into a tent that stood alone amongst the trees. He pulled me towards the beam that stood in the middle of the tent and attached the shackle to a chain that was ominously waiting. I watched in horror as the metal fused together, the magical shackle vibrating with power before it dulled, looking for all intents and purposes, like normal irons.
Matthias then left without so much as a comment or another glance.
I sighed. At least I wasn't physically tied to the post. I stretched out my sore arms and paced, stretching my legs. The chain prevented me from getting close to the door. I gave it a decent yank but it was definitely not breaking. I'd have more luck breaking my ankle than breaking the chain or shackle. Morgana and Severus were not messing around.
I sighed and took inventory of my new prison.
There was a simple bed, a couch, a table with a single chair, and a bathroom section that included a bath. I raised my eyebrows in surprise. There was a platter of delicious food on the table, a towel and change of clothes laid out.
