~Cricket~

Cricket inhaled a deep breath, crisp, moist air filling her snout as she took in Pantala with new eyes. This was her home all those years ago, and now, was her home once again. It was beautiful, just like it had been in the old stories. Forests were sprouting from the ground, the Breath of Evil was gone--forever, this time--and cities periodically dotted the landscape.

She adjusted her glasses with a claw, which had fallen slightly askew. From where she stood, she could see dragons of all Pantalan tribes, yellow, green, blue, and black alike, flying together with the occasional Pyrrhian dragon, at peace. Dashes of white streaked high in the sky, the clouds glowing orange from the radiating light of the falling sun.

All of the hives had been knocked down, as no one wanted a reminder of the HiveWing hierarchy and former Queen Wasp's dictatorial rule.

All of the hives, that is, except for Wasp hive, although it no longer went by that name. Instead, the new name given was "The Tree of Harmony", an allusion to the peace and tranquility between the HiveWings, SilkWings, and LeafWings. Rather the former, garish look, it had been remodeled, a grand canopy of branches and leaves extending from the peak of the "tree" and bark plastered against the side. The design of the former hive was beautiful, but secretly, she also thought it was poetic justice: The former home of the evil queen who cut down all the trees turned into a tree. Before, it had been a city, a home for the Queen. Now, it still was, but the purpose was different.

This wasn't just a city, it was the city. The one where every dragon from both continents was welcome. One where new friends could be made and old friends could reunite.

A city where everyone would always be safe.

Oh, and there was one more thing that was new.

"Greetings, my queen." A voice said from behind her.

She had never wanted to be queen, but after defeating Wasp, she realized that the only way to ensure the formation of a stable kingdom was to take the position. She only intended to rule the HiveWings, as that was where the tree wars had stemmed from, but the SilkWings saw her and her friends as heroes and humbly asked that her and her king rule over them as well.

She turned around, smiling widely when she saw tell-tale azure scales.

"King Blue." She nodded at him. "Welcome home."

Blue smiled warmly, white teeth flashing. "Okay, enough of that. I really missed you, Cricket." He gestured to her with his talons. "Come here!"

She laughed, running towards him. His warm, beautiful wings folded around her as she ran into his arms, finally reunited. He gently took the crown from her head, pressing his snout to the roof of her head. She felt her heart flutter gently, then take flight as Blue took it away.

She would give her whole heart to him. Forever and always.

"I missed you so much!" She cried into his shoulder. He nuzzled the crook of her neck with his snout, making her giggle.

He pulled his head back slightly, letting Cricket look into his kind, yellow eyes. "I love you so much." He whispered into her ear, his warm breath glancing across her ear. Her heart skipped a beat. Ba-bum...ba-bum ba-bum ba-bum

She smiled, eyes gleaming. "I love you too, my king."

They both closed their eyes, pressing their foreheads and snout together in a diamond-shape.
