12 months later
                          
This was it the final court hearing, a day the Reid's had all been waiting for. Everyone was there; JJ and Will; Morgan and Savannah; Garcia; Luke; Emily; Matt: Tara; and even some of Darcy's friends had come. Each person excited to see the monster finally behind bars
                          
The last twelve months had been hard, fist with Darcy and Charlie's recoveries, then the gruelling hearings. No one was left unscathed by Deans lawyer, who was a dam good one despite who he represented. Spencer was put under the spotlight, his reckless and desperate decisions a prime point for the defence. He wasn't the only one grilled, Darcy parenting was put under scrutiny even Charlie was left alone. However, today was going to make it worth it. The day Dean Owens would be sent to prison and never let out, the day this chapter could be closed and another one opened
                          
At least that they hoped
                          
Dean's lawyer was smart, pleading insanity from the start. They attempted to shift the focus from the crime committed to the team's unauthorised investigation, and how Darcy hadn't told a soul putting her son and family in danger. They may have been good because the prosecution was just as good. The prosecution countered the insanity plea with multiple psych evaluations from reputable psychologists, highlighting the nature of the crime in which the defendant had committed. It was going to be a close call, but they had to stay positive.
                          
A jury member stood from the stand ready to read the verdict, a silence falling over the room. 
                          
"One the charge of the kidnapping of Darcy Reid and Charlie Reid," the judge asked
                          
"Guity," the jury answered
                          
"And on the plea of insanity," the judge asked once again
                          
"We find the defendant to be sane, he had complete control over his actions and knew exactly what he was doing."
                          
Darcy couldn't help but let out a sob of relief and happiness, a smiling face as she turned to face her family. There was still the sentencing but she didn't care he was going away and was going away for a long, that was what mattered.
                          
She was finally free to continue her life, with her amazing husband children and friends by her side. She could finally put it behind her
