The nurse knew that the boy should be completely calm, because if he got too worked up, his heart rate could get dangerously high.
They hear Bakugo's breathing become more erratic, as the nurse starts to frantically check the heart monitor. She gasped under her breath as she looks at the dangerously high number.
263 bpm.
"Shit." She curses under her breath as she quickly turns to the emergency call button. "I need immediate help in room 305. His heart rate is increasing at a deadly rate." There is a quick response and she turns back around to Iida, who is a frantic mess. "Is he going to be okay?! What's happening?!" The nurse frowns nervously. "I need to step of the room sir. Help is on the way, and he should be fine." "But-"
Iida was cut off by 3 medics rushing into the room. "Sir, I know you are worried, but you need to get out." A man with short brown hair says. Iida is quickly shoved out of the room and the doors shut in his face.
Tears quickly formed and cascaded down his face. The tears in his eyes caused his eyesight to go blurry, despite wearing glasses. He shakily stands up, before hearing loud and rushed talking on the other side of the door. He looks around the hallway, before deciding to sit in a nearby chair.
As soon as he sits down, thoughts start rushing through his brain. What if he doesn't make it out? What if he dies? What would I do? Dammit, I could of saved him! If only I woke up quicker, I could of convinced him to not do it! God, this is all my fault, isn't it..
Iida sighed heavily, before lifting up his glasses and rubbing his palms over his tear-filled eyes. There was no doubt that he looked like a mess, but he couldn't care less right now. All that he cared about was Bakugo. Nothing else mattered.
Iida checked his watch. 3:58 AM. They arived here around 11pm, so its been about 5 hours. He groaned, watching the hand on the watch tick every second.
This was the watch that Katsuki got for me on my birthday, Iida remembers. It was a very expensive and heavy duty watch, that is also fire proof. It's perfect for missions and patrol.
He sighed for what felt like the hundredth time this morning, before setting his glasses on the small table next to him, and shutting his eyes. He was exhausted, and contemplating whether or not to just rest and fall asleep, but he knew that was very disrespectful. He couldn't just sleep while his boyfriend was in a life or death situation! But then again..there was no telling how long this would take.
He sat there for what felt like hours, until his eyelids started to slowly shut, only to snap back open again. Iida groaned loudly, before he heard someone clear their throat loudly.
His eyes met with that same brown haired doctor from before; only extremely blurry. He quickly put on his glasses before looking back up at the tall man.
"Hello, I am Dr.Nicolas Mahoney. I'm glad to inform you that Mr.Bakugo is in good condition as of right now. He will need to stay here for two days though, unless he signs the voluntary release forms. He is unconscious at this moment, but you may sit in the room if you want to. For around two weeks, he will need to stay away from any activities that may raise his heart rate even slightly."
Iida eyes widened, as he smiled largely. "Thank you for helping him! But if I may ask, do you know what caused his heart rate to rise so quickly?" He questioned.
Dr.Nicolas nodded. "Yes. It was a form of arrhythmia, called ventricular fibrillation. It causes the lower chambers of the heart to beat extremely fast. For reference, the usual bpm is 60-100, but this type of arrhythmia can cause the heart to beat as fast as 500 beats per minute. It also causes you to have no pulse during the time you are in ventricular fibrillation. A defibrillator is very helpful in these situations, as it helps bring the bpm back to its normal rate." Iida thanked the doctor, before standing up and slowly walking over to the doors that held his boyfriend.
