I lay awake in my room, fingers laced behind my head. Why couldn't I find a Kyber Crystal? What was wrong with me? I tossed and turned, unable to fall asleep.

Jarris had been amazing and supportive, but I just couldn't bring myself to believe him.

Something tapped against my window.

I sat up and noticed a shadow move beyond the glass. Jumping up, I dashed to the window and pushed it open. I grabbed my staff and strapped my sword around my waist. I slipped out onto the ledge, following the figure through the darkness up the temple wall. I reached the top of the temple and the figure stood, staring at me.

My breath caught in my throat. "Who are you?"

"You should've stayed in your room." I could hear the smirk in her voice, which sounded slightly familiar.

"What are you doing here?" I tried to sound brave, attempting to hide my pounding heart.

"My business is my own." She replied, stepping closer.

I squinted at her and suddenly it clicked. "No..." My voice was barely a whisper. "Alana?"

The figure stepped out of the shadows into the pale moonlight and tossed back her hood.
Alana's blonde hair was cropped short and hung limply around her face and her green eyes had dark rings under them as if she hadn't slept for several days.

"Alana, what are you doing here? What happened?" A million questions swirled through my mind as Alana walked closer.

She stopped a few feet away. "I finally found the truth." Her lightsaber flashed open. The blade was an ominous red.

My eyes widened. "No..." my breath caught in my throat.

Alana glared at me, a subtle hint of guilt in her eyes. "I told you. You should've stayed in your room." She raised the glowing blade.

I had just enough time to duck out of the way before the lightsaber came down on the roof of the temple. I summersaulted and jumped to my feet.

Alana whirled. She swung her lightsaber.

I blocked it with my staff, but it cut right through it. I tossed the useless pieces aside and drew my swords. I hated fighting my friend, but I had no other choice.

She lunged at me and I managed to duck under the blade, but she landed on top of me. We struggled and rolled across the ground, coming dangerously close to the edge.

She forced her blade towards my neck.

In a rush of adrenaline, I kicked her in the stomach, flinging her backwards over the edge of the temple. I immediately spun and hurried to the edge, gazing at the ground far below.

Rushing out the door, I stopped near Alana's mangled body. I almost gagged. Her broken bones jutted through her skin and gushed blood onto the pavement.

Breathing hard, I dropped to my knees next to her corpse. Tears streamed down my face and my hands shook.

Suddenly, I heard a ringing in my ear. I blinked back my tears and followed the sound to the shattered hilt of Alana's lightsaber. Another broken handle was strapped to her belt. Reaching out, I lifted the hilts and let the metal pieces fall through my fingers.

A red Kyber crystal rested in my palm. I crushed the other handle to reveal a second crystal. One in each hand, I closed my fingers around them and focused on the light that still remained in them.

I felt the energy flow into the gems. With a flash, I dropped to my hands and knees, panting. I slowly opened my hands and found two now orange Kyber Crystals and they were calling to me.
