Cole
Every time I heard her laughing with Kayle and Sadie, a smile broke out on my face. I couldn't control it at all, it just happened.
"You gonna get caught smiling at another lady, bro." Kase's hand smacked down on my shoulder. I looked around thankfully Tia was a few feet ahead and didn't hear him. I shrugged.
"So, Sunday!" Trenton stated. "Mom and Dad want to celebrate Bennett coming back so we need to figure out who's picking up what."
"We'll bring a few sides." Sadie stated looking over at Kase who nodded with a smile. I envied the love they shared. They were like one person most of the time.
"I can grab some steaks, burgers and hot dogs." I chimed in; Tia didn't like that obviously rolling her eyes. If it was her choice she wouldn't even be going.
"Since Colt ain't here can we make him bring deserts, Mark makes a mean Reese's cake!" Jensen said laughing. The rest of us shrugged our shoulders.
"Oh! Dylan makes the most amazing cheesecake!" Kayle said and I smiled, she's right Dylan's cheesecake was my favorite by far.
"She isn't family." Tia said, I couldn't resist my own eye roll.
"Excuse me? She's been family since her and I were like 9, so yes, she is family." Kayle spat back. Tia turned to me and pointed at Dylan.
"If she goes, count us out." I swallowed hard and looked over at Dylan. She closed her eyes and shook her head once before turning and walking the other direction. "Run after her Colson, you know you want to." Tia challenged, I gave her a slight angry look and took off running towards Dylan.
"Dyl!" She didn't stop, I reached out for her arm and slowed down. Her arms were tight against her chest and tears were in her eyes.
"No, no, no, no, you need to go back to her. You can't be over here with me Cole, go!" She tried pushing me away but I didn't let go of her arm.
"Dylan." She looked up into my sorrow filled eyes and tears started to flow steadily from hers. I let out a breath and pulled her against my chest. Enjoying the feeling of her against me for the first time in I don't even know how long. She tried pushing me away but I didn't let her. "Dylan, you're a part of this family."
"I'm not though Cole, she is."
"Dyl."
"No, just because my Mom died and your Mom basically adopted me as her own, doesn't mean I have a right to be a part of your family! I'm just the friend that hangs around, that nobody except your wife has a problem with. Your wife being the only one that I need to not have a problem with me, just so I could still be friends with you!"
"Dylan you know it's not like that. Mom and Dad love you like you are one of us kids. It has nothing to do with Tia or anyone else. She doesn't like Sadie either."
"Sadie is actually family; you know married to your twin brother. So, she doesn't have to like her."
"I'm aware, but that shit doesn't matter. You know better than anyone what family means."
"Daddy." I let out another breath and turned around to Noah kneeling down.
"What's up buddy?"
"I wanted to check and see if Dylan was okay." A small smile came across my lips and I looked up from my knelt position to Dylan who was trying to hide the fact that she's been crying.
"Family." I stated.
"I'm okay buddy, I'm just going to head home. My belly doesn't feel too good." She answered him.
