Finnick and I recieved a lot of sympathy glances and stares as we made our way to the command room. Katniss was talking to Snow, begging him to release Peeta. The only outcome of the entire conversation was that we found out that Snow knew the rescue team were there in the tribute center. The signal was cut off and we had absolutely no communication with Boggs. We had no idea if the victors were still alive right now. Katniss completely lost it as she sobbed onto Haymitch's shoulder while Finnick dropped to his knees. Newt and I managed to get him to his room where he cried for hours, devastated that the girl he loved might be dead.

Once he fell asleep due to sheer exhaustion, I took Newt's hand in my own and we went for a walk. We strolled around aimlessly in silence and only came to a stop when we were too tired to carry on. We sat down on the stairs and I wrapped my arms around his waist, leaning into him.

Silent tears rolled down his cheeks, and I stayed with him without saying anything, just... being there for him. We sat there for what felt an eternity, trying to remain awake incase we got some news about the rescue mission. It was nearly 24 hours since I last slept and the exhaustion was getting to me.

My watch read 10:20 when there was a commotion downstairs. I exchanged wary glances with Newt when Haymitch swiftly walked up the stairs. "(Y/n), Newt. They're back. They're in the hospital now."

Newt didn't need to be told twice. He rushed down the stairs, skipping a few at a time and I quickly followed behind. We pushed open the doors to the hospital and frantically looked around.

"Annie!" Newt called out. Annie was standing by her bed towards my left. She turned around quickly, her bright red hair whipping around her face as her eyes widened with happiness.

She ran towards her older brother and he welcome her in a tight embrace. Tears of relief and joy came cascading down his face. A smile plastered itself permanently on my face as I saw the two siblings reunite.

She pulled away and looked at me, a bright smile lacing her lips. "(Y/n)!" I let out a sob before pulling her into a tight hug, burying my face in her hair, never wanting to let go.

Wanting to give them a bit of privacy, I pulled away and smiled again before turning around to search for Johanna. I spotted her sitting on one of the hospital beds, but the condition she was in, made my gut wrench. Her hair was shaved off, her skin literally clung onto her bones and the circles around her eyes were dark like the night sky. Her arms and legs were covered with scabs and bruises. A sneer was on her lips as she tried pushing the nurse away, but her face softened once she spotted me.

"Oh Johanna..." I walked forward, and I cautiously wrapped my arms around her skeletal frame. Her body went tense at first but she relaxed a few seconds later. I pulled away and looked at her. "Johanna I'm so-"

I was cut off when the hospital doors were opened again with a loud thud and Katniss, closely followed by Finnick, entered the room.

"Finnick! Finnick!" Annie exclaimed and left Newt's arms to rush into Finnick's.

"You're safe. You're alright." He mumbled, searching every inch of her face before kissing her as though his life depended on it.

I turned back to Johanna, who tried to hide the pain on her face. "I'm so sorry." I whispered amidst the tears. "I'm sorry I couldn't save you."

She managed to give a tight lipped smile before a nurse told me that they needed to treat her wounds. I nodded and left her cubical. I joined Newt, who stood a few feet away from Finn and Annie.

The smile on his face made me feel happy, knowing that since Annie was back, everything might start falling back into place.

I needed to see Peeta next. I was yet to thank him for saving my life multiple times in the arena.
