Third person's pov
The gaang minus Li Na are all busy on their stakeout looking for Aiwei who was last seen going into a hotel. He did it. Aiwei was the one who tipped off Zaheer anf his friends. Only Asami knows that Li Na is not on her way to the south right now. She's on a ship heading to the the Fire Nation, and for the next few years, she will be a dual student at her dream school, where she will study math and science and train to become an inventor.
"Wanna play another round?" Bolin asks Asami.
The crew has been waiting in a hotel room where they're keeping an eye on Aiwei's room from their window, hoping he'll walk out soon. With Naga, Pabu, and the rest of them sitting in the cramped space, and the only thing they can do at this moment is wait for Aiwei to leave. Asami and Bolin have been playing pai sho to pass time while Mako and Korra have been keeping watch.
"No, I actually have to tell you guys something," Asami announces while scratching the back of her neck nervously.
"All of us?" Bolin asks.
"Yeah, what's so important, Asami?" Mako asks, not taking his eyes away from Aiwei's door.
"It's about your sister."
"Wait, is Li Na ok?" Korra asks becoming alarmed.
"She's fine. I just don't want you guys to be mad at me... or her."
"What is it?" Bolin asks.
"Ok, I'll just say it. Li Na isn't on her way to the South Pole, she's on her way to the Fire Nation. She's been offered a spot in her dream college as a dual enrollment where she'll finish her high school credits while being a college student. And before you ask, yes, I did sign the papers as her legal guardian giving her permission to go, and yes I am paying for her expenses that the scholarship isn't covering."
"Hold on a moment, what?!" Mako says, not believing it. "Asami, how could you go behind our backs and do something like this? We all agreed we were sending her to the South Pole to protect her!"
"Yeah, Asami! That is not cool. You should have asked us first! Now my baby sister is off in another country all alone without me there to protect her.." Bolin adds getting teary eyed.
"Listen, I know you guys think you're doing the right thing, but I don't think sending her back to the south was the right decision for her, and I never agreed to send her there! Did you guys not appoint me as her guardian?" Asami asks getting frustrated with the conversation. "Li Na is brilliant and she's stronger than you guys give her credit for! This is something that she needed to do, and I think you guys should support her."
"Ugh, this is so messed up!" Mako grunts. "Where's the telephone? I need to call her."
"I'm with you!" Bolin says.
...
Li Na
As I emerge from my room, I walk along the deck of the ship and stop at the railing, facing the open ocean. I take a deep breath, and my nose is welcomed with the scent of the salty ocean air. I take it all in, my surroundings and my reality. I can't believe I'm doing this. I've traveled with the Avatar, I've fought actual bad guys, and I've been captured by Equalist and Dai Li agents, but I have never in my life done anything like this.
Apart of me feels guilty for leaving my brothers like I did. Do they know I'm gone? Do they miss me? Are they mad at me? I hope I didn't hurt their feelings. I hope Bolin remembers to give Pabu his bath, and I hope Mako remembers to do his laundry- he forgets sometimes, but you know what I really hope for? I hope that they take care of each other, and I hope they still love me even though I've betrayed them. I just wish I could've said goodbye.
