Before I could run over to the terminal to try to stop the destabilization process of the source, I looked back at Hyde's body once more. Illuminated with a golden glow, before disintegrating like the clones from our simulation test.
A sense of dread filled my heart as I realized that Hyde had played me again, by remotely controlling a clone of himself from the comforts of his plantation. Meaning that our paths would cross again someday, and I'd have to stop him once more.
Yet, now I had to turn my attention to the Blue 7 source, which was still almost finished with its destabilization sequence. So I ran right toward the terminal and logged into the computer to try to shut down the process before ultimately finding the file commands to shut down the EMP launch.
A wave of relief passed through me as I knew it was all over as I'd stopped the world from going into chaos. The only thing keeping me worried now was Peyton's battle for life. So after this, I walked over to Olivia and Peyton.
I needed him to live. He was the person I trusted the most. And without him, I didn't know how we'd be able to fight Hyde's next attempt at world domination.
Luckily, when I reached them, Peyton was awake again with a tightly wrapped bandage around the opening in his shoulder. Olivia turned with a bright smile that could light a room and jumped out with her arms outstretched for me to catch her. She hugged me for what seemed like an eternity before releasing her head from over my shoulder to put her hands on the sides of my face to get a good look at me. Then gave me a passionate kiss that made me feel like the luckiest guy in the world.
"Uh-huh. So my boy finally got a girl to get his dick wet?" I heard Peyton remark after Olivia and I finished kissing.
"Shut up, fool. Don't talk about my girl like that."
"Oh, my bad. I just got hyped for you, that's all. It's not every day a man's disabled friend gets to get it on with a total babe after saving the world. That's all I'm saying."
"True."
Then, Olivia turned her face to look at Peyton and said with a playful snark.
"Excuse me, this babe has a name. It's Olivia. And she doesn't appreciate you messing with her boyfriend like that."
"I like her already. Good job, Dak. Now can we please get me up and out of here before you two start having sex in front of me? Cuz that would be really awkward for me."
"I bet it would," Olivia commented as we laughed at his remark.
That's when I looked over next to Peyton and noticed that Cam's unconscious body was no longer was on the ground next to Peyton. And with a horrid realization, I turned my head around to see Cam standing at the source terminal. Typing commands into the computer to bypass the destabilization sequence and initiate the EMP.
"Cam, no!" I yelled, right as he pressed the last button.
The whole building began to rumble, with sparks of light beginning to fly out of all the artifacts' crevices. And then shooting a bright, beam of light out the top of it, blowing us back onto the ground, as there was a slight explosion of energy that radiated from the device.
Cam was too close to the explosion to get away. And his whole body became engulfed with electric flames of lightning that spun and danced all around him. Until it suddenly attached itself to his body and started burning the flesh from his scar-riddled arms.
He screamed with a blood-curdling scream that was pure torture to hear as he looked across his burning arms with a look of horror. Then we saw as more beams of lightning attached themselves to the rest of his body. Burning him from his insides with the blue flame.
