(Again, I know I always apologize about not posting chapters but this time, a thunder hit a tree near my house and the internet went out :(

Good thing about the dress!
A lot of flips and secret spots to hide stuff in!
You continued eating your bread as you hid the coffee cookies under the dress' curve.
You sipped your coffee, cringing a little at it's bitter taste. It was good at the same time though.
Once you were finnished with the breakfast, you quickly tapped to your door, and went down the stairs, carrying the metal plate with you.

You had a bit of trouble locating the kitchen, but when you did, you were a little sadened by the view in front of you. It was the raven-haired maid that your supposed father shouted at. She was at the verge of tears and was covering her face with her hands. You sighed, quietly putting the plate down and walking closer to her. You carefuly taped her wrist. As gentle as you were, it still spooked her. She looked at you with panic and slight confusion in her eyes.
She quickly snapped out, moving her hand out of yours.
"I-I am so sorry my lady, I'll get to my duties straight away..." She sniffed one last time before wanting to walk away.
"No no no no no, you're not going anywhere" You stopped her, holding onto her hand. The maid looked at you with panic in her eyes. The poor woman thought you were going to beat her some more.
You did the polar oposite. You pat her arm and smiled at her. "Thank you very much for the breakfast, it was very good" You said before you started searching in your dress.
You took out one of the biscuits and gave it to her.
"I was hoping I'd bump up into you" You smiled, letting go of her. She smiled back and gave you a nod as she took the flat cookie out of your hand.
"It is my job to keep the lady happ-"
"Don't. Don't lady me... just call me (Y/n)" You smiled at her.

After your friendly encouter with the maid, which you have learned is named Betty, you decided to look outside. Get to know your surroundings if you're gonna live here for a while.
The first thing you were welcomed by outside, was the bright yellow sun. It's yellow arms were spreading all over the white grounds of cotton.
Great... your supposed family are actual slavers...
In the cotton, slaves picked and slavers rode on their horses, sometimes yelling at the poor, bent slaves.
You directed your attention elsewere.
A little bit to the left of the field was an older house on swamp-ish water. You weren't fully sure what it could've been, a dock maybe? A small fishing spot?
Your thoughts were interupted by laughter. You looked to your right, seeing a large tree that stood before what seemed to be a farm that lead to the back of the house.
You saw one lady looking at someone behind the tree. She was smiling and laughing. There was probably one more lady because there were more voices.
You wanted to know what was funny, but at the same time you didn't want to feel like one of the push-ins.
You sighed and walked closer to the tree, feeling sheepish.

As you walked closer, you saw an elderly man, talking to a very young boy. Around eleven he was. They were both african american again... practicaly everyone outside was, you would have to get used to this.
The boy was holding a half, full basket. It was filled with seemingly rotten apples.
"And... grandpa?" The little kid asked.
"Hm?" The elderly man asked, looking at the boy. He, in change, was sorting the apples. He apeared to be unable to fully walk, as he was sitting, and his cane was on the ground next to him. Healthy apples went into one basket, rotten into other.
"When's monday again?"
"Soon my boy, three days. Why you askin'?"
"I'm exited for food!" The kid enthusiasticaly said, before running off, behind the house.
"All of us kiddo... all of us..." The man said quietly, more to himself than the child.
You felt a stinging pain in your chest, thinking about how bad theese people were living back in the day. As you thought more about it, it wasn't a whole lot better in your days.

You quickly trotted over to the elder man. As soon as he noticed you, he gave a deep nod.
"G'mornin' lady"
"Please, don't lady me. It's just (Y/n) from now on. But hush about that in front of my father" You smiled warmly at the man. You were really trying to get on everyone's good side and make their lives at least a little different.
The grandpa was a little stranged out by your sudden kindness.
"Here, I've got something for you and the child, but I also have a question"
As soon as you said that, the man leaned foward, listening. You took out another two breakfast biscuits and gave them to the man. He gladly accepted, already looking for when the boy will arrive.
"What happens on monday?" You asked.
"We get actual food. It's not a whole lot, but it keeps us on our feet and that's what your father needs" The old man nodded, explaining the situation to you.
A small plan started hatching in your head.
"Where do you all go after the day is done? Don't tell me you sleep outside"
"No, no, god no, 've you seen that shed over there? the one that's filled with moss?"
"Near the water?"
"Yeah yeah, we sleep there. But as soon as we're counted, they lock us up and keep us like that till mornin'. Exept the house maids, those live in the basement of your home" The older man said, sounding a little sadnened by the truth.
"Who has the keys?" You imidiately asked. The grandpa had a puzzled expression on his face, probably a little worried for where you're going with this.
"Well... after the slavers lock us up, I recon they give the ring to your father" He answered.
"Alright... if you can, try not to tell anyone of our little conversation okay? And, thank you" You said and were about to turn around and leave, before the man stopped you.
"Hm, before you go lad- (Y/n), when you talked about us sleeping outside, there is one that would like that actualy..." The elder man rested his head on his walking cane, smiling.
"Who..?" You turned with interest.
The man simply lift his index finger, looking at the large apple tree.

When you looked behind, three dark faces disapeared behind it. It was the bunch that you were originaly going to talk to, but got distracted.
"Daniel, he's all about the night sky and stars..." The elder man chuckled as he saw supposed name hide.
"You gave a deel nod to the grandpa and went to talk with the three new people.

"We shouldn't have stared..." A deep male voice said, recieving a worried talk from a lady.
"Do you think she'll rat us out?" A young female voice asked.
As you walked closer, another woman, a much older one was revealed.
The older lady imidiately jabbed the young girl into her ribs, so she would be quiet.
The man, presumabely Daniel, intrigued you just as well as the other two ladies. He had short black hair and had a white button-up shirt with some dark pants and was holding a rake in his hands.
