Year 195

"All men are created equal."

Someone once wrote those powerful words in a set of statements that held the foundation of some of the laws in today's society.

But what they failed to realize was evolution would take its turn on it. They also failed to understand that some men are more equal than others.

In this society, the powerful rule the powerless. This rule is almost always seen in everyday society, from the distribution of money about the masses, to form of discrimination among different people of society.

One would argue that our differences make this world beautiful. Stripping that away to make us, all the same, is a crime. If we should agree with the argument, we should all stop trying to make ourselves equal to one another, leave that for the human rights sector, and focus on enjoying our differences and embracing all types of individuals, right?

A  worldwide phenomenon that appeared shortly after The Great Disaster which causes humans to instantaneously burst into flames. In our society today, humans can adapt to the flames and awaken the ability to or ignite themselves or objects. The origins and selectivity of the phenomenon are unknown.

SHC, a peculiar supernatural ability or power that an individual possesses. SHC is generally unique to its user and is classified into multiple categories.

People born with the ability to manipulate flames are known Second Generation of prokinetics while those with the ability to generate their own flames, either from their body or through a certain object are known as the Third Generation. As both groups are partly resistant to being hurt by fire, people in Tokyo often end up becoming Fire Soldiers in the Special Fire Force; though not always--many people around the world began to manifest different kinds of special abilities.

While the cause of the SHC phenomenon is unknown, it has been theorized that Spontaneous Human Combustion occurs due to the encroachment of a person's doppelganger, their counterpart that exists in the world of, into the physical world. And with Little else is known about the phenomenon beyond this, such as the difference between the creation of an Infernal to the granting of Pyrokinetic abilities. They were developed as a milestone in human evolution.

Some people within this general population had possessed this uncanny ability but humanity was ready for the consequences of possessing them. Hence the understanding, "With power, comes great responsibility..." And the reason for the Fire Force.

Naturally suspected, there are people who started to use their abilities for more malevolent purposes. Aside from a human falls victim to SHC, they transform into creatures known as Infernals, there are some people who introduction of SHC-usage in crimes made it difficult for the Fire Defense Squads to defend the public from these villains, and therefore the Special Fire Force are relied upon. The Fire Force moved to prioritize leadership and to maintain the status quo, and as such, decided to put Infernals to rest and made it their mission to unravel the secrets behind it. To filed that void and counteract, the special fire force with a combination of SHC users started to put these Infernals under the name of 'Heroism'. At this point, almost everyone wanted to be in the Fire Force because of the fame, and the glory that came with the job. In our society, 'Heroism' is a sure-fire way to become rich and famous; everyone wanted to be a hero.

But like I stated: All men are created equal... we love to claim everyone is equal. Yet, We are confusing equality with rights. We should all have the same rights, but we should not claim to all be the same.

That's where the other twenty percent fall in. They are deemed the minority of our society and dubbed "Normal"—realized the incapability of weilding the very flames that caused these problems. They appear to be the subject of mockery and a level of prejudice and are considered to be weak and worthless, or that their circumstances are incredibly unfortunate.

And finally there are people who lie between the spectrum, there are others with more... cursed SHC users.

People that have SHC with darker undertones, like slowing the flow of time or electric shocks to destroy electrical systems, are often told that their abilities are more suited for evil. People with these users are often inferior to those with more combat suited SHC because 'Heroism' often praise people with those types of abilities.

"Good morning, Inori," one of the villagers said.

"A-Ah good morning," I answered back while waving at them. I continued on my walk.

All throughout, I noticed how all the houses were beautiful, and I knew this was the work of everyone. For as long as I remember.

"Hey Inori, can you help me today with the shop? Asa has something really important to do and won't be able to make it and I need some help selling some things."

"Not a problem," I replied as I walked over and began helping her bag the grocery.

Regardless of these SHC powers...We are human after all; selfishness runs in the blood of what makes us just that. What also makes us human is the desire and longing to be loved; to be cared for, and appreciated. Kindness is the foundation of genuine human connection.

So in Asakusa, I was know to be benevolent and kind. But in the mismatched eyes that slowly that gaze towards us, that was frowned upon.

"Ah, hey Beni and Konro, glad to see you here," the owner praised, "Need some vegetables for your the squad."

There they both stood wearing the traditional dark blue pants, white shirts with short sleeves and protective chest plates signaling them to be apart of the Hikeshi Fire brigade.

"That's just disgusting," a sullen faced Benimaru complained.

"Be kind Benimaru," the tall man with dark blue eyes, long dark hair tied in a low ponytail, Konro, reprimanded before turning around to take the offering from the owner but turning his attention towards me, "Ah, Inori, its nice seeing you here; you look as beautiful and radiant as ever."

"I don't know whether he was flirting with me or just being nice," I thought.

"Ah, thank you," I said graciously and bowed respectfully, causing him to laugh embarrassingly. And yet, his companion, Benimaru was annoyed as ever.

"Can we go now," Benimaru drawled lazily, "We won't get any patroling done by standing here."

"A-ah," Konro said, "Sure 'Beni.' Hope to see you soon Inori."

"U-um sure," I stuttered as I waved off to them.

I continued to help the owner with the people rushing to buy the produce today.

"You know, Benimaru is single," the owner said while looking at her a bit deviously.

"So," I questioned her back. Did I forget to mention that this particular resident of Asakusa was my best friend.

"I am just saying, he would be a great suitor for you. With your calm, kind demeanor and his rough attitude, you both balance each other out."

"Even so, I think it is unlikely: after all he is known to be the destroyer of Asakusa,"
