"She was literally the hottest girl on the team, Adrienne. How the fuck do you not know who she is? I thought you knew all of Riley's teammates?" I huffed out as I walked with her across the quad for lunch.
I was trying to explain to Adrienne, who the weird girl was on the tennis courts yesterday, but obviously Adrienne was too busy watching Riley play for her to notice. But, if Adrienne mentioned that she's already tried getting with some girls on Riley's team - wouldn't she know who the hell I was talking about?
Even though our conversation was a bit awkward, I couldn't deny that the girl was drop-dead beautiful. Her body was immaculate, and the dynamic we had - while it was odd, at least she was able to keep a conversation going. Despite it lasting a couple minutes.
And if she was straight, I mean - high school was the time for experimenting, right?
She gave me a blank look, "I actually have no idea who you are talking about," she hesitated, "she was wearing a sweater in 90 degree weather? I'm pretty sure I would have noticed if someone was carrying out their death wish while playing tennis."
I sighed, "Yes, she was wearing a sweater - but then she took it off."
"So, she wasn't wearing a sweater?"
"Well, no, but yes. She was at first. She was literally talking to me for a few minutes, how could you not notice?"
"Riley was making me watch her to see if she made any mistakes." She shrugged then continued, "She didn't make any, but she insisted she did."
I rolled my eyes, I never did quite understand Adrienne and Riley's friend dynamic. Riley was the top singles player on the tennis team, and she was quite known for being one of the best tennis players in the area. Despite that, she was also known for being too hard on herself.
For a while, I could have sworn Adrienne had a crush on her best friend, but after seeing how Adrienne was around June Parker - it was quite obvious that the latter captured Adrienne's heart.
"Okay, let's try this again." We continued walking and talking, "She was tan, her skin was a little darker, and she had a lot of obvious tennis tan lines."
She blinked at me, "You literally just gave me three different ways of telling me that she was tan." Dammit.
I groaned, "Fair enough," I paused, "She had black hair. She was obviously quite fit. She's Asian. She was in black spandex and a black sports bra after she removed her sweater."
She interrupted, "I don't remember someone having black hair, and you described half the tennis team and what they were all wearing. They have to wear spandex material to put the tennis balls inside them while playing."
I groaned again, frustrated, "Fuck. Okay, well, she talked about the weather with me. She was kinda...odd. I think she had brown eyes, like deep, chocolate brown eyes. Oh, and she had dimples."
Adrienne stopped walking and gave me a look, "Melanie, I really have no idea who you're talking about. Just, next time you come to Riley's practices or games, point her out next time."
I gave up. "Yeah, okay," I muttered as we continued walking. I looked around and then paused to touch Adrienne on her shoulder. "Isn't that June? Shouldn't you go say hi?" I watched her eyes travel to a table in the quad. June was sitting with two other girls, one girl I could tell was Blaire Felt, another girl on Adrienne's volleyball team. Another girl had darker hair but her back was faced away from me to tell who she was.
Immediately, Adrienne's interest piped up as she was already walking in their direction. I laughed to myself as I followed her. Within the minute, she was already sitting right next to June as if they were already a couple. They were cute.
