Chapter Three

I wake up.

...That was a weird dream. Why would I dream about Keiko messaging me like that? It... It kinda felt too real to be a dream though.

I grab my phone of the nightstand, and... Holy hell it's 4:37 a.m. Why the hell am I awake right now? I don't have to wake up until 5:30! I don't have to pee or anything, and I'm not thirsty...

I shake it off, deciding that it's nothing, and I go to messages. And, sure enough, the messages are there.

"Holy shit..." I whisper to myself. I should tell Hinata about this. But... He wouldn't listen to me. He'd probably think I faked it. Even if I showed him the contact and number that sent it, he'd still think that I faked it somehow.

So how else can I prove that she isn't right for him?

Practice goes as usual, besides the fact that I'm extra tired this time. I keep yawning, and eventually Sugawara-san approaches me.

"Kageyama? You good? You're looking kinda tired there." I nod, and say back, "Yeah, I'm fine. Just woke up too early."
"Hm, what time did you fall asleep and what time did you wake up?"
"I think I fell asleep at midnight, but don't quote me on that. And I woke up at 4:37."
"Oh my god, you need to rest for a bit."
"But-" I try to protest.
Sugawara-san interrupts me, saying, "Practice is important, but classes are more important. Besides, you need to keep your grades up or they won't allow you to be on the team anymore."

I go rest after that.

Sugawara-san tells Coach Ukai and the rest of the team that I didn't get enough sleep, and that I'll be resting before class. I walk outside the gym, and sit behind it. I'll just lay here for a little bit, maybe... I'll just close my eyes for a minute. It feels pretty nice out here. And I'm pretty comfortable too... Maybe just a short nap before class...

"KAGEYAMA WAKE UP!" My eyes shoot open, and I see the orange hair that always reminds me of fire. "...W-What time is it?.." I say, still sleepy from the nap I took.

"Kageyama! It's lunch time! I was looking for you everywhere! And I find you here! ASLEEP!" I groan. "I just woke up, stop yelling. Please. I don't want a headache."
He scowls at me, and says, "Let's go."
"Go where?.."
"To eat lunch, obviously! And you call ME a dumbass.."
"Well, that's cause you are one, dumbass."
"Stop calling me that! I got a 32 on my English test!"
"...Out of a hundred, right?"
"Uh, yeah."
...It's not like I can say I did any better, but...
"...Let's just find somewhere to eat."

We find a classroom that looks empty, and we go in. I flinch on sight. This classroom is horrible! I immediately gag, and say, "This classroom is disgusting! How could anyone even do this!"

There's trash everywhere, dirt is all over the place, a couple desks have writing covering the top... How could a teacher let this happen?

Absolutely disgusting.

"I'm cleaning this." Hinata looks at me, surprised. "We could just eat lunch somewhere else?" He suggests. I shake my head, knowing that this classroom will only get worse if I don't clean it.

I start to pick up all the bigger pieces of trash off the floor, and throw them away. After I threw away a snapped pencil, I saw Hinata picking stuff up, too. I smiled, and continued cleaning.

After we had done almost everything, I look at the floor again. ...I'm sweeping this.

"Holy crap, this floor is nasty!" I couldn't have said it better myself. Even after we picked up all the trash, the floor was still in major need of sweeping. So I go to the closest broom closet, Hinata close behind me, and I open the door.

And I see Keiko with her tongue down a guy's throat.

I try to shield Hinata away from it, but it doesn't help. "K-K-Keiko?..." He asks. She looks up. "Oh, hello Shōyō! Enjoying the show?" She laughs. I would've punched her right then and there, if it weren't for Hinata holding onto my arm, as if if he let go he would fall. ...Which he probably would. I don't blame him.

"What the FUCK Keiko?! What are you doing?!" I scream at her.
"Uh, I'm making out with someone who knows how to please me. Obviously." She scoffs, like it was a dumb question.

I feel my fists clench, and I go to punch her in the face when-

"K-Kageyama, d-don't. Please. Just.. Just don't hit her!" Hinata yells, holding back my arm. I look over at him, only to see tears streaming down his face. It breaks my heart to see this, so I lead him away from the closet. I give Keiko a death glare, and I take Hinata to the classroom we came from.

"I-I'm sorry, I really sh-shouldn't be cr-crying... We were only d-dating for a w-week..." He says, in between sobs.
"Hey, don't say that. You have every reason to cry. Just let it all out. I completely understand," I say, trying to comfort him.

He starts sobbing harder, and, without knowing what else to do, I hug him.

He doesn't seem to mind, as he hugs back and cries into my shoulder. He cries until he hears the bell. He looks up at me, his tears still visible, and says, "I... I don't want to go to class."

"Then we won't."
