September 28th, of 2022. Daylight... The monsters have overtaken the city. Somehow... I'm still alive...
Yeah, I've always wanted to say that. Hardcore video gamers should know this from the classic PS1 game, "Resident Evil 3: Nemesis". I used to have this super crush on Jill Valentine as its main protagonist. She looked really cool and a badass for killing, or should I say, ending zombies. Her charming face with that short hair catches the essence of a heroine of a classic cinema. And the way she fires that Benelli shotgun sparks her radiant skin as she does a rollover evasion. If I'd be a civilian in her story, not only would I feel safe, but I would definitely fall in love with her and follow her escape Racoon City. Even if she crosses a cemetery full of moving hands or a hospital with experimental monsters walking upside down.
But this time, she ain't on my side. This is the real deal. The Covid-19 virus evolved in the nightmare we feared, reanimating the dead... zombies. They now have overtaken the city and who knows to where the extent. Everything is in chaos. Buildings are burning, cars crashed suffocating the highway, people screaming and running while others succumb to the hordes of the undead biting and scratching the ones who have fallen down, communication and media are out, and the police are overwhelmed. Will there be a legitimate rescue coming? Will there be a safe haven for survivors? Will there be a cure for this curse of a disease? Tell me will we ever survive...
Now apart from this terrible sudden predicament, we, the new survivors of this apocalypse faces another crippling challenge. How do you pacify a group of survivors who do not know each other quarrel by the limited supply to survive with? Will the decisions be ever logical when everyone is not in favor of anyone's suggestions? Who has the right to the upper deck of the beds? Who should stay late at night to do the rounds? Who should do the cleaning and cooking? Who should do the scouting and acquisition of supplies? Who should be the leader? And who should court whom?!? But before the evolution of the Covid-19, people around the globe were asked for these three simple policies... Wear a mask, keep a one-meter distance from each other, and always wash your hands. But people neglected these, causing periodic spikes in the graph. People are so hard-headed insisting their self-entitlement. Now this selfish attitude just caused us a new holocaust. There's no government anymore to administer to us, no hospitals to cure us, no police to protect us, and no markets to supply us. There's only a few of us... and a billion of flesh-eating zombies on the highways. Where do you want to go?!?
We should always cherish those who are around us today. This end of the world as we know it have taken billions of lives, my friends, my families, even the people I do not know whom I used to meet on the road before. I used to dance whenever I hear my favorite KPop play. And not to brag, but I had a knack of imitating their moves and even exemplify. I used to scream when I see them on screen. But today? They're just a walking, drooling, lump of flesh murmuring about their past life. Before, I used to think of chasing them. But now, I'll be the one running away from them... just to save my butt from being bitten. It's a drag!!! That's what Shikamaru would always say on troublesome times like these. I envy him of getting married. I once taught of marrying also... with the girl I used to like. With a scent of fresh garden roses she emits is a day of completeness to me. Now the girl I used to really like has that nasty smell of rotten rats, of course, decomposing. Naaah, I don't like her anymore. I'd rather live the rest of my life in utmost celibacy and loneliness.
But there's no use in moping around waiting for help. No one will come. We have to stop cowering and start taking arms and retake this Earth for this is rightfully ours. Man has seen the horrors of history, but have fought with his last blood to earn his rights on this very land. And so let this be man's legacy of being the alpha of this planet and flourish with grace and courage. This is our war...
