That night after the proposal and star gazing Richie and Jon now retreated to their beautiful hotel suite. They lay in each other's arms smiling at and caressing each other. It seemed as the past was washed away by the hurricane of love.
Richie kissed Jon softly and sat up leaning on his arm. "Jon...when do you want our wedding date to be?" Richie asked softly and bit his bottom lip. "Up fo you, dear! I planned on letting you decide." Jon smiled sweetly. "Do you want it to be a big banquet party....or something small and simple?" Richie chewed on his lip. "Darling I don't care when it is and I don't care if it's the world's biggest wedding or even just going to sign the papers at a courthouse....it just matters that it's you and I together." Jon held Richie's hand and kissed his cheek softly. "...Do you want to get married tonight? I saw one of those quick Vegas style wedding chapels on the way here." He blushed at Jon and now had his own lip bleeding from biting so hard. "I'd love to." Jon had a soft sweet smile on his face as he said so. "Let's go then.." Richie said smiling and the two got dressed and got into the car.
Richie drove the two to the small wedding chapel. He began to feel bad for Jon, a person only gets married once or sometimes twice in their life...he wanted this to be special for Jon! "Rich, what's wrong?" Jon asked as the two leaned against the building. "You deserve a big beautiful wedding! With perfect everything...You'll resent me if I can't make it that way...are you sure you want to get married in this dinky little chapel or are you just saying so because you think I'm pushing you to?.." Richie looked at the beautiful singer in front of him who he'd grown to fall in love with. "Richie...there will always be time to have a big wedding party, but love like ours is fast paced and deep. And if we don't act on it....we may miss the chance to keep it..." The singer caressed Richie's cheek. "This small chapel is perfect...I couldn't dream of anything more..." Jon smiled sweetly at Jon. "Now let's go inside and get hitched yeah?" Richie chuckled and nodded.
The two went through the doors and Richie went with Jon to speak to the man. "Hello boys, what can I do for y'all?" The man smiled. "We'd like to get married sir." Richie smiled softly. "Ah wonderful! I just need you two to sign here on the dotted line and then we can do the ceremony!" The man pushed the paper and pen to Richie and Jon. "Here we go..." Richie smiled wide and signed his name on the line. Next, Jon eagerly signed his name on the same dotted line as Richie. "Wonderful, now bride will follow my wife and groom follows me." The man smiled, but was unsure of who was falling under each title. "See you in a bit, Jon." Richie smiled sweetly and Jon and followed the man. "See you soon, Rich..." Jon smiled softly and followed the man's wife.
Richie stood at the alter in the clothes he already had on since they were nice. This was it, they were finally going to be married after years. Richie took a deep breath and collected the last of his thoughts as the doors opened. Jon had decided to wear one of the dresses the chapel sold...he looked beautiful. As soon as Richie saw Jon and the piano began to play, he got teary. There walking down the aisle was the love his life! Jon smiled at Richie teary...this was the start of the rest of their lives together...how lucky he had gotten to marry his best friend and the love of his life...
Jon reached the aisle and held hands with Richie as the man began to speak. Both had tears of joy in their eyes and heartbeats in their ears. Richie mouthed "I love you" to Jon who mouthed back the same. "We're here today because you two crazy kids wanna get married huh?" The preacher/chapel owner was an old man, but was quick to make a laugh. Richie and Jon both nodded. "Well then I'll hurry this up so you two can spend the rest of your lives in each other's arms." He smiled and winked at the two causing them to chuckle. "Now I could tell you two what to say to each other like in traditional weddings, but love isn't traditional and I think it would mean so much more if you two said your own words/vows to each other! Jon you go first." The man smiled.
"Richie...there's so much to say that there will never be enough time to. We went through so much hell together and much of it I caused....but we came out on top and still wanted to be together. I vow to wait for you always, I vow to fight for you forever, and I vow to never desert you in love or when you need me....I know I really messed up with that in the past, but never again..." Jon squeezed Richie's hands. "That was beautiful, Jon." The preacher said. "Your turn Richie." The man smiled once again. "Jon...you are the love of a lifetime all the songs sing about, but what's even better than that is that I got lucky enough for you to be the love of MY lifetime. My love for you doesn't stop at life, I'll love you even past the grave and past the point when Heaven ruptures....I'll never stop loving you...not even past the ends of time. We may not have the perfect life together or be in the "perfect" love, but we will have each other...and that's past perfect to me. I'll never stop trying to make each moment better than the last...I can't wait to spend the rest of eternity with you. I don't know what else to say because there's not even words to describe how much I love and feel about you." Richie smiled teary and squeezed Jon's hand.
"Beautiful, now the rings please." The man smiled. Jon and Richie both looked at each other a bit confused. "Sir...we don't have traditional wedding rings, but we both have engagement rings on. Is that alright?" Jon asked softly. "More than alright! We can get straight into the officiating part!" The preacher said happily. "John Francis Bongiovi jr. do you take Richie to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in health? And for better and for worse?" The man looked at Jon hopeful. "I do." Jon smiled wide. "Richie Stephen Sambora, do you take Jon to be your lawfully wedded husband? In sickness and in health? And for better and for worse?" The man looked at Richie the same. "I do. Always." Richie smiled and looked at Jon deeply in love.
"Then by the power invested in me, I know pronounce you husband and husband! You may kiss the bride!" The man said happily and excited.
"...To the rest of eternity together...." Richie smiled wide and kissed Jon with all the love he's ever had. A kiss that started the rest of their lives together.
