Chapter Three
                          
Tobi walked to potions class with Mary by her side as she talked about her weekend. "This one Ravenclaw boy asked me out, you know Gerard, with the lisp? Anyway he asked me if I wanted to go to Hogsmeade with him next week but I of course said no because have you seen him. Gross. He followed me around all day after that begging me to reconsider. It was so embarrassing."
                          
Mary always had men trying to get her attention, some women too, but Mary had her eyes on someone in particular. She didn't believe in just dating for a week and moving on, she wanted a relationship, and she was very picky.
                          
"I don't know, Mar. He seemed nice when we had Astronomy together last year." Tobi pointed out as they pushed open the door to the classroom. No one was in their except for them and Lily and Severus. 
                          
"Hi, Lily! Congratulations on making it into the Slug Club. You too, Snape." She added when she realized the greasy haired Slytherin was also present. He gave her a short nod before turning back around to the front of the class. More people started to file into the classroom as Professor Slughorn set up for today.
                          
"Good evening, class! As you know next year you will all be taking your Newts, and for those of you wishing to pursue a career with potions, I recommend you do not try to slack your way through this class." He pointed his gaze to Remus, James, and Sirius in the back of the class. Peter hadn't gotten a high enough score on his OWLs, so he couldn't be in the class with them. Sirius threw a smirk at the teacher, knowing full well that's exactly what he would be doing this year. 
                          
"You're assignment is on the board. I want you to get used to brewing without your usual partners that way those of you who have been leeching on others all these years actually have to work." He instructed that everyone find a new partner, and now Tobi was nervous. She only had Mary as a friend in this class, and she partnered with Lily. James was crestfallen when she shot him a glare and turned to work with Mary after he had asked her to work with him. 
                          
"How about we be partners?" The raven haired boy asked Tobi after being rejected by Lily, again. She really wanted to say no, seeing how it would be extremely awkward to work with him, but she thought it would be even more awkward to turn him down and have to ask for another partner. She nodded quickly, and he took a seat beside her and got his potions book out to gt ready for class. Slughorn requested the class try to brew the Polyjuice potion. Potions was the only subject Tobi excelled in, and was surprised to learn that James did too. 
                          
She didn't have to correct him on anything, and she didn't end up having to do all of the work. He even corrected her when she was about to stir the potion clockwise instead of anti-clockwise. Needless to say, she was shocked.
                          
"Does she know?" He asked out of the blue, motioning to where Mary and Lily were working on their potion. 
                          
"No." She answered simply, hoping he would get the hint that she didn't want to talk about it. But alas, he didn't. 
                          
"Why not?" He didn't look at her as he spoke, continuing to crush the lacewings. 
                          
"I'm not ready, okay? It's bad enough you know." She said, starting to get irritated. He had no right to ask her about her personal business. She hadn't told Mary because she accepted the fact that she probably wasn't going to make it to her graduation, but Mary won't have that. It would crush her to see Mary upset, especially over her. 
                          
"I'm sorry I made you tell me." She was almost surprised at his sincerity, seeing as he used to act like a childish buffoon. Though she had to give him credit, he had started to mature a lot recently in an attempt to show Lily that he was ready for a relationship. "Is there anything I can do?"
