Finding Out

It was getting late. I was back in the hospital bed while Edd and Matt sat on the chairs there to be with me. I could tell that they were starting to get tired. With the house gone, I moved a bit to the side of the hospital bed and patted it softly. Edd looked like he was going to refuse until Matt perked up with joy and dashed to my side. He got comfortable quick, we looked at each other, both understating what to do, and looked back to Edd with puppy eyes.

Edd crossed his arms and looked away, but we continued to make the face. He finally gave in and joined us. Although the bed wasn't that big so I ended up in the middle a little squished, but having them by my side right now was really comforting. Before I knew it, I had fallen fast asleep.

Although I didn't get to sleep for long. About 30 minutes after, I woke up to see Edd and Matt fast asleep. I tired to fall asleep again, but nothing came to me. So I just laid there for some time until my thoughts started to cloud my mind.

All day today, I haven't been able to hear, and it's starting to really get to me. Maybe I've gone deaf? I mean, that explosion was pretty loud. Or maybe I'm in some kind of shock? This is all because of the commie bastard! And to think I ever liked him. He's just so annoying, so perverted, so..., fuck. I really fell hard for him. Well, he's gone now, so I shouldn't even be thinking about him. He tried to kill me and left us homeless. Well, I do have that apartment I got. Guess that will do for now.

I felt myself sigh and looked back up to Edd and Matt. They seemed so, peaceful, like we weren't in a hospital. I closed my eyes and focused on sleeping. It wasn't easy, but I eventually fell asleep.

I woke up to feeling movement around me. I slowly opened my eyes and saw Matt and Edd carefully getting out of bed. I sat up and they looked at me with a warm smile. I happily returned the smile and noticed the doctor from yesterday standing by the door. Edd and Matt moved to the chairs in the room and the doctor came towards me. He started writing on his clipboard to which he then showed me.

"Thomas, after reviewing your test from yesterday and seeing how you perform, I regret to inform you, but you have gone deaf."

I froze. I mean, I thought about it last night, but I didn't really think I was. He turned to Matt and Edd and the looks on their faces told me they now knew. They looked at me sympathetically, but I couldn't look at them. I turned away from them and could feel myself shaking. The doctor tapped my shoulder and pointed to his clipboard again.

"Don't worry Thomas, you can get hearing aids to help with your hearing, they won't be the same as hearing without them, but they will help. I would also recommend you and your friends learn sign language to make communication easier."

I nodded. He turned to the guys and then handed them a packet of papers and a pen. The doctor left and they turned to me. Edd started writing in a paper and turned it to me.

"Well the doctor said you can leave now. Your old hoodie was torn up so you'll have to wear one of mine for now."

I nodded and got out of the bed. Edd handed me a pair of black jeans, my checkered vans, and one of his green hoodies. I walked into the bathroom that was in the room and got dressed. Edds hoodies was slightly to big, almost cover my thighs, but it's better than nothing. I walked out of the bathroom and we left the hospital. When we got in the car, I sat in the back while the guys talked about something. I stared out the window and realized we were heading back to the old house. It was not a pretty sight.

When we arrived, we got out of the car and I saw that they were gathering whatever survived the explosion. I joined in and after awhile, we got a few photos and pieces of clothing. I kept digging around until I found Tomee bear. I held him close and noticed his arm was coming undone. I felt myself sigh and shoved him into my pocket. I kept digging around until I found Susan. She was the same as when I left her thanks to my safe. I put her with the other things we found and kept looking.

As I dug around, I felt something cut my finger. I only jumped and wiped off the blood on my jeans. I dug out what had cut me and realized it was an old and broken framed photo. It was me, Matt and Edd. We are all smiling. I remembered this day so well. I smiled and broke off the rest of the glass. I put it in my pocket and called it a day. We couldn't really find much, but we needed a break. I was able to get the words out about the apartment and soon left there.

When we arrived, we realized it was a little, small. But it's the best we've got. There was only one bedroom and bathroom. We left all of our belongings in the living room and Edd decided to go out and buy a mattress for each of us. It was Matt's job to get the groceries, and me, well I just got to stay home.

Now that I was alone, I noticed that Edd had left the papers from the hospital on the kitchen counter. Being bored, I grabbed the papers and looked through them. Found out that the doctor was Dr. Liam, good to know. I didn't feel like reading all of it and just really skimmed through the pages until the image of a hearing aid caught my eye. I started to read about the information, I was hoping to get a pair so that I could hear again, but reading through this, I think I'd better stick to sign language. The hearing aids costs were as high as £2200! There's no way id be able to afford them. I felt myself sigh and put the papers down.

I looked around the apartment and looked for something to clear my mind.

This was gonna be a long few hours
