"No but your boyfriend did."
"Shane is not my boyfriend."
"Could have fooled me. Looks like it from where I sit."
"Maybe you should sit somewhere else then. Shane is my dad's best friend. I've known him since I was born."
"Maybe you should tell him he ain't your boyfriend. He's been staring daggers since I sat down."
I looked over to Shane talking with dad and Dale. He was right Shane was starring right through Daryl.
"Shane's just protective like that."
"Yeah keep telling yourself that girl." He said getting up and walking away.
I couldn't help but wonder if it was that obvious to everyone else that Shane and I were close.
I was pulled from my thoughts when dad came over and sat down.
"How ya doing sweetheart?"
"I'm ok daddy. How are you?"
"I don't know baby. Shane seems to think I'm not putting you and Carl first. Do you feel that way?"
"Of course not daddy. You always do what is right. Theres nothing wrong with that. You know how hard headed Shane can be."
He pulled me into a hug. "Thank you sweetheart. Get some sleep huh."
"Okay gnite daddy."
"Gnite baby." He said as he disappeared into the tent with Lori and Carl.
I walked to Shane's tent and went inside. Shane was already there lying on the sleeping bag on the floor. I crawled up into the cot. Turning my back to him.
"Have a nice chat with Dixon did ya?"
"Yea I suppose so."
"What about?"
"Just about Merle."
"I don't like you being alone with that redneck."
"Why?" I turned over getting a little agrivated at his tone.
"Because I don't like the way he looks at you. Thats why."
"Please Shane it's all in your head. Daryl Dixon can barely stand me."
"Yeah that just proves you don't know men or their intentions."
"Yeah I suppose your right about that" I said turning back over.
We didn't say anything else to each other and soon I was asleep.
I woke up the next morning. Still agrivated at what Shane had said.
As I left the tent. I saw everyone packing up their things and loading up the cars.
Dale,Jacqui,Glenn, and Jim went in the RV. Shane in my Jeep. Dad Lori Carl Sophia and Carol in their SUV. Daryl in his truck. Andrea and T-dog in his car.
The Morales family decided to leave to try and find their family in Alabama. Everyone was saying their goodbyes to them.
"Hey, you still mad at me?" Shane asked.
"A little bit." I said not looking at him.
"Amara."He said turning me to face him.
"What Shane? What do you want?"
"I'm sorry ok. I was just jealous. I guess."
"Just because I was talking to Daryl?"
"You really don't see how he looks at you do you?"
"Shane your just being overprotective. Daryl Dixon doesn't look at me any diffrent than he does anyone else."
He signed and rubbed his head. His signature move when he was agrivated.
I couldn't help but chuckle at him.
"Oh now I'm funny huh?" He said.
Grabbing my sides tickling me. I squealed trying to get away.
He lifted me up over his shoulder. Earning us some strange looks from everyone. Including my father.
He sat me down and backed away a little.
"So you riding with me?"
"No...your riding with me. It's my Jeep."
He chuckled tossing me the keys. "Lets get going then baby doll."
As we walked towards my Jeep I noticed the look I was getting from Daryl. When our eyes met he looked away.
"What was that all about?"Dad asked.
"What you mean?"I asked.
"You and Shane?"
"Oh that nothing just playing around dad."
"Hmm okay. Just watch yourself alright?"
I didn't really understand what he was getting at but I said "ok daddy I will."
I went to climb in the drivers side of my Jeep.
"Your not riding with us?"
"Naw figured I'd drive my own for a change it's been awhile."
"Shane's going with you?"
"Yeah not really room anywhere else unless he goes with Daryl."
Dad and I both chuckled at that.
"Becareful stay close and remember what I said watch yourself."
"I will daddy."I said hugging him before hoping in my Jeep.
"Everything okay?" Shane asked as I started the Jeep.
"Yeah everythings fine. Lets listen to some music okay?"
"Okay" He said giving me a funny look.
A ways down the road the radiator hose busted on the RV. Jacqui exits the RV telling everyone Jim has gotten worse and she didn't think he had much longer.
"I saw something up ahead might be a gas station if we're lucky. I'll take Amara we'll go check it out."
Dad gives a look between Shane and I.
"Keep a close eye on her Shane."
"Always do Rick."
We hoped in the Jeep and took off. While everyone else dealt with the Jim situation."Is something going on with you and dad Shane?"
"No baby everythings fine."
"Are you sure? It doesn't seem that way."
"How does it seem? I hadn't noticed."
"I don't know exactly. Somethings just off."
"Maybe he can tell how I'm feeling about his daughter." He said putting his hand on my leg.
"Shane we can't." I said removing his hand.
He slammed on the breaks. "Why the fuck not Amara? Tell me you don't feel something for me."
"Please Shane come on. This isn't exactly the best place to have this conversation."
He leaned into me our faces almost touching. "We will have this conversation soon Amara."
We get back to the group with the closest size hose we could find. While we were gone Jim had decided being close to death that he wanted to stay right here. Dad and T-dog had helped sit him against a tree. Everyone walked up offering Jim a final goodbye.
Daryl's POV
"Sorry about this man."I said not knowing what else to say to this man I barely knew.
"Could you do me a favor Daryl?" He asked.
"I can try man."
"I see how you look at Amara. You need to protect her. There's something off with Shane. She looks worried. Maybe she could ride with you?"
"Jim I don't know man she doesn't really like me."
"Yes she does Daryl I see that to. Please a dying man's request?"
