telling everyone of their e-n-g-a-g-m-e-n-t (see what i did there) was one of the most memorable moments of all their lives- for they had the most interesting of friends and family.
diana and fred
since the love birds lived with them, and diana had accompanied anne to the university, it seemed almost like common sense that they would be the first to know.
after their long afternoon at the tree, anne and gilbert confidently barged in the room. now diana and fred we're dating big they were often more proper then anne and gilbert were. so the fact that they had barged in on diana on top of fred, said something.
"oh- uhm we" anne tried to sound out but failed miserably
"you guys seem busy, we'll come back" gilbert said with a smirk before sending a wink to the now flushed red couple.
"n-no it's alright, whatever this is seems important" diana said a little shakily. embarrassed was not a strong enough word to describe herself.
"should i tell them or you?" anne had said sweetly, further confusing the other couple.
"gilbert- did you- you know" fred had been referring to the ring he found almost a week ago. diana thought he was talking of intimate relations and smacked the poor fellas arm.
with a nod gilbert excitingly said, "me and anne are engaged"
anne had never seen diana run to hug her faster in her life while fred had sauntered over to gil and whispered a "took you long enough" in his ear.
the girls in the dorm
to say that gilbert was nervous, would be an understatement. for he had known these girls since he was very young and knew that most had liked him at some point. he was beyond worried that anne would be isolated once again by the girls who once caused him to be smacked with a slate for simply talking to her.
"everyone should be down in about 5 minutes" anne said, running down the stairs with biggest smile. seeing her so calm and collected and excited seemed to make gilbert forget about all the ways that this could have gone wrong.
luckily for them it had been saturday, or as the girls liked to call it 'suitorday'. it was the one day of the week they could invite their suitor inside for some privacy. meaning everyone was home and pretty much everyone they went to school was their.
slowly but surely the group formed. ruby, moody, joisie, billie, jane, charlie, and tillie had been there. diana and fred were also present but just stood in the back so they could watch the scene unfold.
"we have gathered you all here because we have important news" anne suddenly said causing everyone to lean forward, awaiting her response.
"i bet she's pregnant" josie whispered over to billie, "i mean she had gained some weight down there"
"she's not pregnant josie". gilbert was trying to lose his cool infront of everyone he had grown up with but with josie and billie, they made it almost impossible. and with a nod anne signaled that gilbert could tell them, "we are getting married"
everyone had a different reaction.
ruby had rushed to anne and hugged her saying things like 'summer or winter wedding' and 'oh was the proposal magical' and 'your lucky duck'
