Start from the beginning

"You're a bloody cannibal!" Enoch screamed at him.

"Oh, actually I'm not. I'm far from being human." Caul said to him and then let out a thunderous laugh.

Emma stared down at Jacob, her eyes big with fear and hatred towards Caul. Jacob replied to her by looking back at her, nodding. Then he spoke to Caul again.

"You can have me, instead of her." Jacob said, dead serious. Apparently, Emma didn't know that Jacob meant that when nodding at her and she said, "Jacob, no!". But then she was cut off, as if her mouth was suddenly zipped.

Caul grinned, seeming to be happy about Jacob's offer, but didn't let go of Emma. Then the vines keeping Jacob caught loosened, too, and Caul grabbed him.

"I've waited so long for this..." Caul said, dreamily. "And now that it's finally happening, I feel like it's happening too soon...but never mind that."

Caul tilted his head back and held Jacob above him. "It's quite sad that it's already ending here, but I shouldn't waste this perfect chance." he said, grinning devilishly. "Nothing personal, kid. Wait, no—it is something personal."

Then the monster opened his mouth and Jacob got a perfectly horrifying view straight down into his throat. Jacob would have closed his eyes or looked away, if it wasn't for a blueish glow emitting from its depths.

Caul's grip began to slip around Jacob and soon he'd fall straight into his death. Caul was about to let go and drop him, but then a weird sound came from Caul's mouth, which sounded like he was choking and groaning at the same time. He closed his mouth and froze, dropping Jacob down on his nose.

Laying on the lower bridge of Caul's nose, Jacob had to turn around carefully, so he could see what was going on. He managed to peer down and get a slight look down Caul's chest.

Something big had impaled him. And that something was holding a big, blue glowing, slippery thing. It was pulsing, the beat becoming slower with every passing second. It was Caul's heart.

"Brother." Caul managed to say, though it was even less than a whisper.

"You ruled long enough. Now it's my turn." Myron said, pulled his hand back out of Caul's chest—including his heart—and pushed Caul. As Caul stumbled backwards, Jacob fell from his nose down onto Myron's shoulder.

Myron kept on pushing his brother out the fortress and when they arrived outside at their end of the bridge, Myron put a foot on Caul's chest, keeping him down on the ground.

Caul looked at him, his eyes narrowed, but filled with fear and confusion. If there was still a glimpse of Myron in that insect monster, then this would have been the first time he'd seen his brother afraid.

The tree giant tried to say a few last words, but the only stuff that escaped his lips was blood. First it was just a bit, but soon it came cascading out of his mouth.

Eventually, Myron did it. He gave his brother one last kick and Caul fell sideways into the chasm, the boiling river gnawing on his skin, eating it away. Caul screamed in pain, as loud as it was still possible. The boiling river was in fact finally something that could do him harm.

Apparently, peculiar giants could still live a few minutes after their heart had been removed, because Caul was still flailing, trying to pull himself out. But the pain and something else—the poison in his blood—was weakening him, while he was choking on his own source of life.

Soon, he stopped flailing and lay in the river face down, drowning and motionless. Caul was dead. Another tower had fallen.

Myron dropped his brother's heart and with a wet thump it landed on the ground. Jacob was speechless and crawled a bit closer to Myron's neck, so he couldn't spot him when looking down to his shoulder.

Behind Myron, the fortress started to collapse in on itself, falling apart. Caul was dead and so his creations were dying, too.

Inside the collapsing fortress, Miss Wren was still holding onto Althea and as she saw her former ward slowly falling apart into a bunch of loose vines, she cried even more. Eventually, she had to let go, as she slid down the shelf.

The rest of Miss Peregrine's wards finally got free from their natural prisons and quickly ran outside, together with Miss Wren, to see what happened.

Caul's wights woke up from their trancelike state and looked around confused, probably looking for their leader, only to find a sad-eyed ymbryne and a bunch of children. Surprisingly, they did not aim their guns at them. There was no one to give them orders—they seemed completely lost without Caul. The guards decided to follow the others outside, before the whole fortress would bury them underneath itself.

Outside, they saw Myron standing, his right hand dripping with his brother's blood.

On the other side of the bridge was a whole crowd of slum dwellers, who were just as confused as the wights. In front of the crowd were the ymbrynes, including Miss Peregrine, Miss Cuckoo, Miss Bunting and Miss Avocet. They were gaping at Myron, frozen with surprise, but also with fear.

With his left hand, Myron reached onto his shoulder and picked up Jacob. He held him in front of his face to get a better look. After eyeing him for a bit, he said only one word—a name. "Abe."

Then he knelt down and put Jacob back on the ground. He did that so gently, that it almost made you forget that he just ripped his brother's heart out.

Myron stood back up to his full height and let his gaze wander over to the crowd and the ymbrynes. He was still staring emotionlessly, but it seemed more cold than ever. Then he said something that everyone heard and wished rather not to hear. "You're next."
