Netherlands (Lars Van De Berg) x Reader

*Warning: slight drug use

 An angry feminine voice echoed from inside the apartment and out into the hallway. (Y/N) paused at the door with her keys in hand. 'Is someone in there with Lars?' She thought, inserting her key into the lock moments later 'There's no way that's his voice.' She entered the main hall and peeked her head into the kitchen to observe the chaos. Bella stood in front of a seated Lars with anger clear on her face and a spew of Dutch curse words flying out of her mouth. Lars half-listened as he stared with a calm expression at the broken chair laying not too far from the siblings. Bella looked over at the hallway and paused at the sight of (Y/N). Lars glanced over in curiosity and froze at the expression on his fiancée's face.

(Y/N) took a deep breath and sent a small, warning smile towards the Belgian woman "Bella, I understand you may have unfinished business, but I would appreciate it if you could continue this another day. It would be wise for both of you to calm down and then talk again tomorrow." Bella stared at her before nodding and leaving the house after sending (Y/N) an apologetic smile. Lars stood from his chair and enveloped her in a tight hug "Rough day at work?" She hummed in affirmation "Rough day at home?" He snorted "That's an understatement." He glanced at the chair and sighed. She took his hand in hers "We'll worry about that later. For now, let's go relax on the couch." His gaze lingered on the broken furniture before he reluctantly agreed.

He took a seat on their couch and pulled her down next to him. She turned on the television to an old football match of the Netherlands versing England. He glanced at the tv, but returned his gaze back to her worried expression "What happened at work today?" She sighed and leaned in closer to him "The usual." She looked up at him to notice him occasionally glancing at his 'special' box. (Y/N) momentarily thought over the pros and cons and gave in to his desires "You can do it today if you want to. Just for today." The small smile he sent her made her smile in reply. He opened his box and prepared the joint before bringing it to his lips and lighting it up. (Y/N) crinkled her nose at the familiar smell, before turning her full attention to the game on the television. When the game ended she turned to look at Lars.

The effects of the drug were slowly starting to wear off and his slightly strained expression returned to his face. "Did the fight with Bella bother you that much?" She asked, shifting on the couch to get a better look at him. "Nee. Bella and I have fought more times than I can count. I've become desensitized to it" he explained, his attention shifting from the tv to her. She frowned at the unexpected answer "Then what's bothering you?" He locked gazes with her "The chair she broke was expensive." His expression remained serious and (Y/N) rolled her eyes "Seriously?" He nodded "Ja. That's money wasted. Now I have to buy another chair, which is more money wasted." (Y/N) shut her eyes as she processed his words.

His stinginess was no secret. He had made it clear during their first date, and he continued to make it clear throughout their relationship. Despite the clear signs, and his famous statement 'Money makes the world go round', she didn't think he'd feel miserable over a broken chair. "Lars" she began, and he hummed to show he was paying attention "You need help." She cracked a smile at his offended expression. She shook her head "I love you, but this is ridiculous. The most emotion I have seen you show this week is towards a chair." He frowned "My emotions are valid. Money is important." "More important than your fiancée?" She asked. "Depends" he replied, leaning back to sink into the couch cushions.

(Y/N) tried to hide her disappointment "Care to elaborate?" He smirked as his green eyes looked her over "In terms of value to society, money is the most valuable. In terms of value to me, especially emotionally, you're much more valuable." She sighed and leaned into his side with a small smile "Fine. That's somewhat acceptable." He hummed in agreement and placed a gentle kiss on her head "I love you." She glanced at her engagement ring and decided to ignore his words momentarily "Does this mean you're going to be cheap when it comes to our wedding?" He stood up from the couch and made his way over to the kitchen "We should figure out what to do with this chair." "You should fix it yourself" She stated, keeping note of his avoidance of the question "And no, your Nordic friends can't help you." She smiled at his noise of protest.

Notes:

Nee = no in Dutch

Ja = yes in Dutch

'Money makes the world go round' is a line from the show I think (English Dub)

Prompt: Chair. I thought it'd be fun to write a chapter on his stinginess and this word helped out a lot.

I hope you enjoyed this chapter.

Next is Russia who will be updated on Tuesday.
