"Good luck." Joe said as I tucked my gun in my pants behind me. I smiled at him as I entered the room. I closed the door behind me and turned to see the man sitting on a chair opposite a bare chair, waiting for me to sit down. I smiled at him but he didn't return the favour.
"Sending in their prettiest girl to con me into leaving." He snickered.
"If they were going to do that they would've sent in Winter." I replied, sitting down across from him. He had his hands tied behind his back and both legs tied to the chair. "And I volunteered to come in."
"You've got guts." He said. "They seem to think I'm some kind of criminal."
"I don't." I said softly. "I just came here to talk."
"That's what they said." he said smiling slightly. My eye flicked to just under his right eye, where a purple mark was beginning to show. His eye was pretty swollen and the white part was pink.
"Which one hit you?" I asked.
"The little Mexican." He said coldly.
"He's Spanish." I mumbled. "And that's the reason I'm in here; talking to you."
"Because he's Spanish?" he scoffed.
"No - because I arrived her 5 days ago." I scowled.
"Did they treat you like this?" he asked.
"Well, for started the British one stole my car, then I managed to find him, then they put a bag over my head and kept me in a room for 2 days until I managed to escape and get half way down the street in the car they stole from me with an empty petrol tank. Then they persuaded me to stay and I'm here." I said.
"How did you escape?" he asked.
"I'm not giving you tips because it involves attacking the only person in the room with you and currently that's me." I laughed.
"Oh; so you're a badass?" he laughed.
"I'm stupid." I confessed. "This place is safe and I tried to get out where it wasn't anymore."
"Yeah well." He mumbled. "I've survived this long." I smiled at him.
"What's your name?" I asked.
"James Dark." He said. "Let me guess, you're called Jessica."
"Nope."
"Nikki?"
"No."
"Emmeline?" he asked. I scoffed. How did he know that?
"Nope." I lied.
"Yes it is." He smiled.
"How do you know?" I raised my eyebrows.
"Because the English dude told me if I hurt 'Emmeline' I'll be in big trouble." He laughed.
"Call me Emmy." I said. "Where are you from?"
"Australia. Sydney bloke." He smiled.
"And what are you doing here James?"
"There's a lot of talk about this house." He sighed. "About it being safe and secure."
"It is. But if you want to stay you have to know your boundaries." I said.
"And they are?"
"If you want to go; go. Because if you hurt another person while trying to sneak out you'll be in trouble," I was referencing to myself. "You will eat what they give you; no more. You will not cause harm to any of the other housemates. No lying. No Yelling. No making excess noise. No smartasses. No going rouge if something bad goes down; we have to stick together for maximum survival."
"Is that it?" he interrupted.
"No interrupting. No going against the judgement of Joe or Luis. Always follow the rules." I finished.
"You sounded like you had a script."
"Look, I don't like any of them either. I don't even like these people. But it's safe here and they have so much food." I whispered.
"Then do something about it. Let's take their food and get out of here." he mumbled.
"We'll never make it out. They'll shoot us." I said.
"They'll shoot me don't you mean." He sighed.
"They'd shoot both of us." I lied. They probably wouldn't shoot me. "Look, don't do anything stupid and you'll survive here. If you think you can't do that then you should go." I said standing. He looked at the ground, sighing.
"Their probably listening, so say something to persuade Me." he mumbled.
"It's great here. You'll love it if you choose to stay. Just don't disobey Luis and Joe. They're too strong to go against!" I said loudly. James started to laugh, but silently. "How was that?" I whispered.
"Bit overboard." He whispered back.
"I'll fix it." I muttered. "It's tough; but all worth it. I am having the time of my life."
"Never get a job in acting." He whispered. "Okay - I'll stay. I guess."
"Great!" I yelled. Just as I finished the door swung open and Joe stood there, frowning. "Has it been 20 minutes already?" it had only been like 10.
"Yes - yes it has." He lied. "What did you decide on?"
"Like you weren't listening?" James mumbled. I kicked him foot. "Um - I mean - I want to stay."
"Good -"
"I have my conditions." James interrupted Joe with.
"No you don't." I said. "No he doesn't."
"Yes I do." James persisted. "No one will lay a finger on me."
"Deal."
"Not done." James interrupted again. By the look on Joe's face he wasn't happy. "You will not harm me, or Emmeline. I get an hour a day to go out and loot for myself. I don't want your charity food, just a safe place to stay."
"Sounds good." Joe said calmly looking at me. "Well done Em."
"Thank you." I mumbled as he turned and walked out of the room. I looked at James coldly.
"What?" he asked.
"Why did you include me?" I asked angrily.
"Because when we escape he won't be allowed to hurt us." He laughed. I sighed and turned. "Aren't you going to let me go?"
"I'll send the prettiest girl we own to do that." I said walking out and into the hallway, closing the door behind me.
