Lisa
Reunion with a whole clan inside a fancy restaurant.
Cool.
I'm not leaving my sarcasm behind.
Okay, why am I grumpy? Let me tell you then.
I know - for a fact - that everyone hates being questioned by your whole clan like you're in a hot seat and you need to answer every damn questions they will throw against you.
At my age, there's this specific question that really bothers me the most, especially when it's only been a week since you broke up with your girlfriend slash almost fiancée and ended a 9 year old relationship just because some stupid guy wanted to take my girlfriend for his own good and well, congratulations to him, he succeed in doing so.
"When are you going to get married, Lisa?"
Yup, that's the question I've been trying to avoid from the start and the mere reason why I chose to sit in the far corner but I think I failed dodging their questions anyway.
I tried to give them a smile but well, at least I tried though. "I'm too young for that grandmom."
"You're already 29, almost 30! What do you mean too young?" My gramps said, only then I heard my devil of a cousins started snickering beside me.
It was too much for me, I can't even tell them that Jennie and I broke up because they love her so dearly and I'm not out of my mind to tell them she cheated. I still love her. I do and I'm not planning on destroying her image in this whole clan but what I can do? The least thing that was in my mind is too fake pretend like we're still dating.
Nope.
I'm not that selfish.
I know how to let someone go if I had to, if they want to.
"Where's that beautiful girl anyway? Is it Jennie Kim?" Thanks to my aunt, everyone is now waiting for my answer. I'll give her a high-five later... on her face.
"We - uhm - we already... br-"
"I'm here!"
Just when I was about to deliver the most 'shocking' news to my whole family a high pitched voice stopped me.
"Oh my god, Jennie! You're so beautiful." They started gathering around her, giving her some sweet hugs and kisses on her cheeks.
"I'm sorry I'm late."
How can you do that, Jennie Kim?
How can you go here, face my whole family when you cheated on me?
That's a tough guts you got there.
She sat beside me, giving me a loving kiss on my cheek but I flinched. I know, I still love her very much but I'm not some kind of a martyr that will just welcome her back after what she did. "What are you doing here?" I hissed.
"Let's talk."
I was about to walk my way out, not ready for this whole kind of 'talk' she was referring to when my grandpa talks. "Jennie, we are asking her about when are you two getting married but this grandchild of mine doesn't want to spill. So I'm going to ask you instead. So, when?" Everyone is waiting for her answer and I almost laugh out loud because of how absurd it was.
We are far from getting married.
"Very soon, gramps. Soon."
Her answer satisfied my family but immediately got my attention. "I need to talk to Jennie for a sec. I'll be right back." I dragged her in the far corner of the restaurant, away from my family.
"What play are you acting this time, Kim?" I whispered-yelled. Frustrations building up on my system.
She pointed at me with her index finger, using it to push my shoulder. "You have to listen to me now, Lisa. I gave you your space for one whole fucking week and now you're listening to me."
"I'm not a fan of listening to a cheater. Oh damn, I lost the chance of doing the 'welcome home cheater' thing!" I said with whole bunch of sarcasm, almost dripping.
"You know what? I don't care if you're being an asshole right now but I want you to hear my side whether you like it or not!"
I gave her a smirk, shaking my head. "Go on. If it makes you feel better about cheating then go on."
"I never cheated on you!" She shouted, tears threatening to fall down on her beautiful face.
"Are we really going on to that, Jennie? If that's what you want then fine. I saw it, Jennie.... with my both eyes. I saw you two kissing. For fuck sake I'm not blind!"
Her tears started cascading none stop and I shouldn't feel guilty about it but surprisingly, I am. "It-It was a misunderstanding," She sobbed. "I pushed him away... I slapped him because I didn't want it in the first place."
"You pushed him away because you saw me."
"You're wrong, I pushed him away before I even saw you, Lis. I'm not insane to give up our 9 years just for a fling. I'm not insane to give you up - the one that I truly love - just for that perverted jerk!" She was breaking down, knees trembling.
In 9 years of being together, I already know that she's not allowed to cry too much because of her asthma. I was very careful when we're having a fight when we're still together. "Where's your inhaler, Jen?"
"I-In my b-bag..."
"Where the hell is your bag, Jen?" I was almost losing my shit, she's gasping for air in front of me, clutching my jacket for support.
"I-I forgot it i-in my car..."
Damn it! I rubbed my forehead, almost in the verge of panic, when I remember that I always bring extra inhaler for emergency when we're still together. She's a forgetful person and I know that.
I immediately grabbed it inside my pocket, shaking it before going behind her, like I was back hugging her. I placed the inhaler on the tip of her mouth. "Stay calm, Jen. Breathe with me. Come on."
"One, two, alright you're doing great. Keep doing that. Inhale... exhale. Very good baby. One more time. Inhale and hold... exhale. That's it, you're doing good. Now, relax. I got you." I hugged her from the back, doing circles on her shoulder.
"I-I'm so sorry, Lisa." She was starting to cry again but then I kissed her head, giving her a quick squeeze.
I will always have a soft spot for her.
Always.
"Everything's alright, baby. Let me take you home. You need to rest. We'll have our talk later."
"Will you cuddle with me, tonight?" She was looking at me with a hopeful eyes, tears breaming on the side of her eyes and I can't say no to that, can I?
"I will. Now, let's go."
"I love you... very much, Lisa and I'm not planning on ruining our relationship. Please trust me on that."
I nodded at her, giving her a peck on her lips. "I'm sorry for not trusting you enough and I love you more than you'll ever know but now let me take you home first."
"I missed you so bad..." She whispered when we already arrived inside my car.
"And I missed you too, baby. I know I do."
