Gene Ress
Forty-Four

Walking into work with a clear headspace for the first time in a while is just how gene started off her day. Today three surgical requirements were placed in her hands for immediate attention. She didn't question her teammates for such work instead she settled into her office, grabbed her tools and headed over to the first patient with ease.

After a full 17 hours of non-stop work Gene finally took the break she had been needing 10 hours ago. Tired and aching all over Gene sits back into her newly bought office chair and laid back against it for relaxing support. Today Gene felt accomplished because she saved 3 lives from death itself, cured a few babies from a cold that had been going around and helped out a few of her teammates with new patients being rushed to the emergency section. Now all she asked for was a small little break from her entire work day, Just 10 minutes is all she needed.

- All I want is to be here with you right now. Gene looked up into Riley's bright hazel eyes and lost herself inside her look undoubtedly in-love with the woman holding her in her arms. - Just hold me close - Riley wrapped her arms around gene waist tighter and pulled her closer into her warm embrace as they rocked to the slow sounding music in the background of their listening ears.

The loud knocking Gene thought was apart of her night-dream banged louder against her office door forcing her to wake up from the sleep she took against her chair. Her eyes opened slowly before the alarming knocking came again. This time the banging opened her eyes clearly all while she fought the urge to lay back and go right back to sleep. She couldn't deny how good it felt to finally get some rest from a 17 hour work shift. Another loud banging knock and this time Gene quickly got up and swung the door open. The environment she saw hours ago still preoccupied itself with patient assistance and rushing emergencies. "Thank God you are up I thought you'd never wake in that chair" Calvin spoke breathless and concerned. "Yeah well the new look isn't all that it's giving me" Gene tiredly slurred. "As much as I hate to say this we need your help" Calvin blurts out. "With?" Gene questions with tired irritation. "6 surgeries have been brought to my attention. You know as a team we can't do this alone" Calvin explains. "Yes.. That might be so but who's the one in there saving this patients life because it doesn't like it's ever a team effort" Gene informs. "You're the best. You don't need a team to feel as if you can do it. We are not so good with saving everyone's life like you are.. so that requires the entire team to be there to get a job that heavy for all of us done" Calvin explains. Folding her arms across her chest Gene leans against her door seal for support and explained how she truly felt towards the job she had been having for years now. "Calvin do you have any idea how hard I work everyday to save someone's life? Or how many days I've stayed over-time just to make sure all the patients that are assigned to me are good for the night? Do you know what I've done for putting my job first instead of my entire life?" Gene questions him seriously. She couldn't believe she said that out loud without remorse. "No— I don't know gene but— "See that's the problem you keep giving me buts, but you as my teammate can't even answer my question" She stops him. Quietly Calvin stands still and silent from Gene's cutt off rant and waited patiently on her to agree to the help he had asked her for. Professionally Gene sucked in her stirring feelings and accepted that she had to help even if she didn't want to. People's lives were at stake so she didn't have time to be mad, especially not now when majority of her team counted on her to perform miracles.

After saving 5 lives successfully gene decided to settle herself back into her office. She felt accomplished again and the feelings she had earlier was now a distant memory in the back of her head. She had finally accepted that no one here would ask about her day when the entire work team worked almost as hard as she did to make sure that ever soul that stepped inside the hospital was treated with the best care possible. Knowing she had finally finished her entire work-load for today Gene rested herself back against her office chair and relaxed her body once again. Quietly she pulled her drawer open and pulled out her phone carefully before rummaging through 17 unanswered messages which all turned out to be from Riley Greenfield herself. A small uncontainable smile bridged across Gene's face with the warmth of a full blushing flam sizzling around her cheeks.
