Jace's POV

"Jace, what's wrong?"

A searing pain flew through his veins. His parabatai rune was glowing ever so faintly, letting him know that the horrible pain he felt was coming from Alec. And this was only a fraction of it.

"A-Alec." He breathed when the pain finally subsided. "They're hurting him."

"We should have never left him," Clary mumbled.

Jace could almost hear Alec screaming in his mind. Yelling for Magnus to stop. It was something he had never thought he would hear.

Magnus and Alec loved each other so much. They would do anything and everything to protect each other. But here they were, Alec begging him to stop. But stop what? What was he doing to him?

"Alec," Jace said aloud, trying to contact his parabatai.

What? Alec asked. Even in Jace's mind, Alec's voice sounded drained and out of breath.

"What is he doing to you?"

Nothing.

"You have to tell me, Alec. I can't help you if you don't."

Fine. Two things. Some type of controlled poison that Valentine created and a uh...

"A what?"

An agony rune. He replied quietly.

"By the Angel, Alec. I..."

He was cut off by Alec yelling again. Magnus! Magnus please! Stop!

"Alec?! Alec!" The other shadowhunter didn't answer.

"What? Jace, what's wrong?" Clary's face was filled with worry.

"We need to go get him. Now."

"But Isabelle said..."

"Screw Isabelle. I'm not letting him die again. I just got him back."

Alec's POV

"Magnus, please!" He yelled.

"You were talking to Jace."

"I won't do it again! Just don't..."

"It's too late, Alexander."

Purple magic shot from his hands, hitting his parabatai rune. Alec screamed. He didn't know how long it lasted. Everything was like a blur.

Images of Jace swarmed through his mind, memories from their childhood. He could here Jace screaming his name.

"Jace!" He yelled before everything went black.

  ...

"What did you do to him?"

"I just canceled out the powers of the parabatai rune. It's only temporary."

Alec opened his eyes, groaning. He lay on the floor of his room, Jonathan and Magnus standing over him.

"See?" Magnus said. "He's fine. Don't worry, I'm not going to kill him. Yet."

Alec sat up. He didn't say anything, he just stared into the beautiful chocolate brown eyes that he had fallen in love with. He wasn't mad at Magnus. Not even the slightest bit. None of this was his fault.

"What are you looking at, shadowhunter?" Jonathan asked in a sharp tone. Alec stood up, keeping his eyes locked with Jonathan's.
