Eva's POV
"Eva, what are you doing?" Cas yawns, stepping outside to join me on the porch. We spent the night in an abandoned house, one on the same street Isabel lives. I spent the whole night worrying about her and Tana too. Cassie managed to comfort me a little, but my fears of Isabel Kim kept me up all night.
"Being anxious," I reply. "I guess I picked it up from you."
"You finally toning down that reckless behaviour of yours?" He laughs, sitting down beside me.
"Not necessarily, but I am worried. We just need to find Daphne Quinn and get the hell out of here."

Sighing, I glance down to the letter in my hands, the one addressed to her. If anyone will know where to find Ryder Quinn, it might just be her. I don't know who else will.

"So other than your aunt and Sebastian's sister, is there anything else on your mind?" He asks.
"I could say the same about you. You put up with all my complaining, so, y'know is there anything wrong for you?"
"I wanna go home, to be honest, that's about it though. Just being at home with Maven and Charlie, there's something calming about it."
"Well duh, it's home, of course it's gonna be comforting... but to answer your question, yeah, I guess there is something else on my mind."

Something I may never be able to shake off.

"Y'know how - a bit after we first met - I couldn't remember the name for so many colours?" He nods. "Well, sometimes it still happens. Nothing major, I'll just look up at the sky and surprise forget it's... it happened again. Fu-"
"It's blue," he smiles softly. "The sky is blue. Like the ocean, or a sapphire."
"That's it," I reply with a grin. "It's like, sometimes I'll forget the name, and it's like the colour itself goes grey. It always happens when things seem to be going downhill. I'm surprised it didn't happen at the palace, or maybe it did and I didn't realise. I'm so used to it being in black and white after all."

"Well hopefully we'll get the information we need about those two and things will start getting better," Flynn says as he walks over. Taking a seat beside me, he yawns loudly as he stretches out. "Everything will be alright in the end, I'm sure of it."
"Since when were you an optimist?" I laugh slightly.
"Honestly, I couldn't tell you. I think you're rubbing off on me a bit," he smirks.

We sit in silence for a few moments, staring out at the motionless street. It's so quiet, it feels like the whole town is either abandoned or asleep, maybe a mix of both. I'm not exactly sure what time it is, but it's early, around six in the morning. I wouldn't be surprised if most people aren't up.

"Hey Flynn, I was wondering, did you ditch school or something to join the rebel group?" I ask. "Cause I mean, Cas and I have never been to school, the closest I got was classes at the palace, but you did. So what happened there?"
"To tell you the truth, I was planning on dropping out anyway. It's not like it'll improve my chances of getting a good job, not when the best job I could get back in Dragmire probably requires little to no qualifications," he replies.
"What's school like then? Cassie and Hunter seem to claim it's miserable," Cas adds.

"It is. Teachers don't give a damn about us kids, the only one who did was good old Miss Viana. Though, after the fire, she wasn't able to get her teaching job back. She was happy to hear how nerdy you've become though."
"Bet she was disappointed by how uninterested you are when it comes to books then."
"Shut up," he groans, nudging my arm.

A smirk on my face, I look up and down the road, keeping a close eye out for anyone who may cause us trouble. And I'm glad I do, because as a figure comes closer into view, more and more of her features begin to remind me of mum.

Immediately, I scutter inside, poking my head up very slightly as I peer out the window. Cas seems to notice who it is, but doesn't have any time to hide without seeming suspicious. He whispers something to Flynn who almost jolts to his feet, but he just manages to keep himself on the ground. Isabel glances at the two as she walks past, freezing when she sees Cas. Shoot, I forgot she knew Cas too.
