The sight was depressing, shocking as well.
I heard a faint sob coming from the kitchen, lights were brightening the hallway, then I heard what could be a whine. I didn't know what I was feeling right now, I've never seen this side of her.

My mother with her arm supporting her head, on the other side there was a bottle of alcohol, from what I could see it was a Martini.
Her face was totally absent, staring at the empty glass without really looking at it as if she was under a drug.

For the first time, I felt pity for her. It was a side that I'd have never expected it, she was always so cruel towards me, she didn't even care about me.
Yet, here she was, trying to get away her sorrows. It was around five minutes, when she looked up, eye bag printed on her skin as she looked at me absently.

My body was frozen.
When I first came here, I was scared, didn't want to face my fears. But I had a plan in mind, even if it was incomplete. Now? My mind was blank, like on a computer when appears a white screen. "I-I failed. I got fired at my job", she said suddenly, her voice raspy that was barely a whisper, making me blink twice.
A weird feeling was flowing into my body.
Do I have to reply? To assure her? I was unable to do anything, not sure what to say.
Then I heard a sob, followed by a loud cry.
"I-I'm sorry..." Those words hit me like cold water.
