Amelia

On the road to get Luke and I home, I was thinking about how happy I was that Josh and Hannah hit it off.

I felt like shit for dropping the guy after just one date, but I just didn't feel the sparks I did when I was with Jace.

I most probably got him his next date so it makes it even, right?

We arrived at the appartement, and I decided to go on a little jog while Luke did his homework. I went in my room and opened my little closet to take out some yoga pants and my favorite hoodie, then I grabbed my earphones and a bottle of water on the way out.

"See you later Lukey, I'm going to jog around."

"When will you be back?"

"In an hour maybe. If you finish your work before I'm back, we'll watch a movie. Deal?"

"Deal!"

I went down the stairs and took my usual rout.

I actually loved running. It was sort of freeing to be able to feel the wind against you, while you blast your music to motivate you. It was as if nothing would stop you.

Well, except for the crowds of people on the pavement, or the cars when you wish to cross the road.

Other than that, it was cool.

An hour and fifteen minutes have passed, and I decided it would be a good idea to head back. I was a panting and sweaty mess despite the cold weather, and a shower followed by a hot bowl of soup were exactly what I needed right now.

Once back in the building, I was trying to remember which soup Luke liked so that I could prepare it for dinner, but when I finally got the key to fit in the rusty hole, I didn't expect what I saw at all.

"What the fuck are you doing here?"

He immediately stood up at my arrival and started walking towards me.

"Cupcakeeee! You're hereee!"

Wait, is he-

"Luke, baby, can you go to your room for a little bit?"

"Sure." He shrugged his shoulders and did as I said.

I noticed Jace's legs were wobbly from his lack of balance, so I held his arm and led him to the small couch.

"What happened to you Jace?"

His eyes were droopy but I could see that they held so much emotions in them. I really wanted to know what was preoccupying him.

"I'm so sorry Amelia." He whispered while hugging me tightly.

It was so unlike the Jace I knew. He was so vulnerable right now, I wish he showed this side of him more often.

The emotional one, not the drunk one though.

Seeing him looking like a lost puppy did something to me, I couldn't  stay mad at him from before, so I instinctively wrapped my arms around him and started stroking his hair in reassurance.

We stayed like that for a little while, but I could tell by the way that he was holding me a little tighter every few seconds that something was seriously bothering him, and so it was bothering me too.

"Just explain to me what's going on."

"It's all my fault." He mumbled in my neck.

"What is?"

"I shouldn't have started the game in the first place."

I was so confused right now, he was clearly messed up by the amount of alcohol he must've ingested. His breath even reeked of it.

Nonetheless, I held his face in between my hands and made him look into my eyes.

"Why did you come all the way here?" I tried to ask in the most gentle tone possible.

"B-because I have to tell you the truth."

"About what?"

He stayed silent after that. We were still looking into each other's eyes and I had a feeling that whatever he was about to say would change everything.

Oh boy, if only I knew.

"D-don't you ever wonder why I, the so called bad boy who talks to one and who everyone is so sacred of, started talking to you ?"

I was taken aback by this random question, but now that I think of it, I never really did question that. "Well now I do." I said with a puzzled look on my face.

"Because for some reason that I really wanted to find out, you, my little cupcake, weren't afraid of me."

"Isn't that supposed to be a good thing? What's the point you're trying to make?" The suspense was killing me, and I think my stomach was agreeing too because he started grumbling.

Or maybe it's the fact that you ate as much as an ant does today?

Anyway, that's beside the point. Focus Ames

"Amelia, I know I'm fucked up, and you getting into my life was a mistake. But it was the best mistake that's ever happened to me."

That was cute, I think?

"Dude you're scaring me. Just spill the beans already."

"The reason why I became so interested in you, was because you are different from the rest." He paused a bit, then continued. "I wanted to set a little challenge to myself to get to know this strange girl, then try to ruin her. It was the dumbest thing I've ever done but I feel like you needed to know the truth. Even if you were my little game at first, I later found out you were so much more, and I regret ever letting myself stoop so low and treat you this way."

Ringing.

Buzzing.

Crashing.

Whatever you want to call it.

That was all I could hear after Jace's confession.

To believe that I was being used so easily was unreal to me.

I have feelings for this guy but who cares? I'm just a game apparently.

My head was hurting so bad and my heart was beating so fast. The fact that I didn't eat much all day didn't help either.

Everything was spinning around me, I could barely hear Jace's muffled voice talking.

"Amelia, are you okay? Please say something, you look super pale right now."

The last thing I saw were Jace's worried blue eyes before everything went dark.
