She was so lost in a thought, she didn't see ran right into Carrie.
She held out her arms and squinted her eyes shut, hoping she would at least save herself.
She slowly opened her eyes to see Carrie's startled blue ones. She found herself staring at Carrie.
She was pretty. Beautiful in fact, prettier than her. She was jealous. A galaxy of freckles dotted her face, and her eyes were a very pretty blue.
"C-Chris.. g-get o-off!" Carrie squirmed underneath her, a beyond flustered look on her face.
Chris found herself blushing as well, no where near as bright, though. She stood up then brushed herself off, and Carrie quickly scrambled up.
They slowly met each other's gaze. "Are you okay? You look.. sad." Carrie suddenly spoke.
"I'm fine." Chris spats.
"You can tell me." The shorter girl says. "I won't make fun of you, there's no reason to."
Chris looked off to the side, biting her lip. Her throat started to burn from holding back tears. "I'm fine I promise."
Carrie looked at Chris, you could tell she felt awfully bad for her even though she didn't know what had happened. "Please..? I won't tell anyone.."
"Okay!" Chris exclaimed, dragging Carrie into the janitors closet. "Billy broke up with me!" She cried, tears that she had been holding back now spilled out of her eyes.
"I —.. why?" Carrie was genuinely confused. Anyone would be lucky to be with Chris herself.
Chris shook her head. "It's embarrassing."
"I won't judge." Carrie gently says. "If I do, you can.. slap me."
Chris nods. She genuinely thought Carrie would make fun of her. "Billy hits me sometimes." She murmured. "And I finally snapped at him for it and uh — yeah."
Carrie's eyes widened. "C-Chris that's not normal! H-he shouldn't have hit you!" Her eyes then widen in realization. "I-I.. is that why you.. came to the nurses office?"
Chris simply nodded, tears brimming in her eyes. She felt extremely emotional right now. About Billy, about someone finally knowing about the abuse she went through, and the fact Carrie White, the girl who she made life's a living hell, actually was caring for her.
She wanted someone to hug her, like her mom but she was in prison. Her dad was too caught up in work, and now, she had no one. And she wasn't even sure if Billy cared for her in the first place.
Carrie sympathetically looked at Chris (she has just read her mind). "You can cry if you want. I can hold you."
Chris simply nodded, giving up. She had already revealed so much to the girl, so why not? She clung onto Carrie, holding onto her tightly.
Carrie was stunned for a moment, she didn't expect this. She thought Chris would shove her away or something along the lines.
Tears soaked Carrie's long sleeved shirt, Chris had her face buried into Carrie's neck, and quiet sobs shook her body.
"I-I'm sorry!" Chris suddenly says, then pulls back from Carrie.
"F-for what?"
"...For being.. me." Chris mumbled. "I've been so mean to you, yet you still care." She whispered. She wiped her tears with her sleeve. "I should go.."
"N-no you don't have to." Carrie quickly says.
Chris narrows her eyes. "I'm not scaring you or anything?"
Carrie shakes her head. "No." She then looks to the ground. "I actually.. liked being hugged."
A small smile played at Chris's lips. Carrie had looked adorable in the moment. "Then come here." She spread her arms open.
Carrie stood still for a moment, before walking into her embrace, and Chris mindlessly started playing with Carrie's blonde hair, earning hums from the shorter girl. "That feels nice." She murmured.
Chris smiled, enjoying the moment. Carrie was gentle, she was shy.. unlike Billy. He hardly ever hugged her nor comforted her in any way. Now that she thought about it, he was just using her. "I really am sorry, though."
"I-it's okay." Carrie whispered. "It really is."
"I just don't understand how you, forgave me so easily."
"You seem sincere." Carrie looks up at her. "And everyone deserves a second chance.."
Chris furrows her eyebrows. "Even me? Carrie, I literally embarrassed and hurt you in so many ways."
"I know.." she mumbles. "But I promise, that it's okay now. I forgive you."
Chris faintly shakes her head, still shocked that Carrie forgave her so easily. "Is there any way I can make it up to you?"
Carrie nods. "If you'll be my friend."
"Of course I will, Carrie." Chris intertwines their hands, causing Carrie to blush. "I'll also make sure no one bullies you anymore. Just tell me if they do."
Carrie smiles, it was barely noticeable though. Half of her thought this was too good to be true, but she didn't want to think that. "Thank you. Thank you so, so much!"
"You're welcome." Chris quietly laughed at her. "You look adorable when you're happy, by the way."
"Thank you. But I really don't." She squeaked, looking down.
"I promise you do." Chris says, gently placing her finger on Carrie's chin to where she'd look at her.
Carrie was beyond flustered at this point. She didn't know what she was feeling. It felt like a bunch of butterflies flying around in her stomach, and she wanted to be closer to Chris. "I —.."
Chris smirked. "You're flustered, Carrie."
Carrie suddenly pulled back, hoping to calm herself, which Chris just pulled her back into the hug.
"Sorry if I made you uncomfortable." Chris spoke, laying her head on Carrie's.
"I-it's ok. You didn't." Carrie whispers, nuzzling her face into Chris's chest.
"Good." Chris breathes. "Hey, do you wanna go shopping?"
Carrie shrugged. "I dunno, I've never been anywhere besides school and home.."
"That gives you the more reason to come!" Chris smiles.
"I-I guess." Carrie mumbles. "My mom's going to be home late anyways."
"Okay!" Chris grabs Carrie's hand. "Let's go?"
Carrie nods, blush spreading across her face.
The two ended up not shopping at all, Chris had decided to take Carrie to get ice cream instead. Which, was the first time she'd ever had something sweet. And her reaction was adorable, she absolutely loved it.
Carrie slept peacefully that night, knowing tomorrow that she'd finally have someone to talk to at school.
And that someone was Chris Hargensen.
