XXIX- Mind Over Matter

                                    

                                          
Xavier's POV 
                          
I woke up a couple hours before Kaia this morning. I felt relieved. But disappointed. I guess in that short pregnancy scare I got accustom to the idea of it. But she deserved something to make her happy. 
                          
I decided to take the day off and give all of my employees a break. I think we all could deserve a pause on reality. It was a new day and a new opportunity to make my girl smile. I hated seeing her so upset. 
                          
Between the situation with Ryan and now her pregnancy scare I was worried about her. I headed downstairs and started preparing a breakfast for her.
                          
 I decided today would be a good time to use the terrace. Last night when she was asleep I had Lydia purchase some white roses and panting materials. I needed to remind her of the things she loved and enjoyed. 
                          
My phone vibrated in my pocket "I'm at your door."
                          
I opened the door to see a very much pregnant Lydia. 
                          
"Lyd... can I ask you a serious question." 
                          
"Yeah just let me find a place to sit down and you can ask me any damn thing you want." She pushed past me and plopped on my couch.
                          
She groaned in relief and let go of the bags in her hand. I walked over to the couch and sat with her. 
                          
"Lydia... when you told me you were pregnant I expected you to be like a couple of weeks or sum. But you look at least 6 months." 
                          
"Yeah... I know. I was wearing really loose clothing to hide it. And I tried to suck in really hard. I was scared you were gonna fire me or something." She sighed and ran her fingers through her blonde strands. 
                          
"Now why would I fire a woman bringing another mouth to feed into the world. Do I look that heartless?" I chuckled dryly. 
                          
"No, but you're very intimidating. And I wasn't sure how you'd react." 
                          
"Lyd, look I know you're my assistant and everything but I consider us a team. You help me out and I help you out. I may seem scary and shit but I'm not THAT ruthless. Keyword that." She laughed and stood up. 
                          
"So what'd you do to get put in the dog house Xavier?" I laughed. Me in the dog house, never. 
                          
"Well no, I'm too good to be in the dog house. Kaia and I had a pregnancy scare last night. And they were all negative but I think we both got attached to the idea. And the whole thing with Ryan. I'm just really worried about her." She looked astonished. 
                          
"Yeah, I think the poor girl deserves a day of good treatment. Xavier Carter a dad. Awe. That's not a bad thought. I mean but if I was the kid I'd be terrified of you." She cackled at her own joke. 
                          
"Ah hahah. I think I peed." She rolled her eyes at my sarcasm. 
                          
"Now go home, get some sleep. Tell the husband and the cats "hi" for me and drive safe. Thanks Lydia." I smiled as I walked her to the door. 
                          
"Hmhm, now how about a raise." She stood in the doorway. 
                          
"Goodbye Lydia." I closed the door in her face and heard laughter at her end.
