I couldn't stop staring at the ring on my finger. I was afraid that if I took my eyes off of it, it would just disappear and I would wake up from a dream. John sat beside me with the widest grin on his face.
"You don't even know how happy you just made me." He said softly and I leaned into his chest, pulling the cover over us a little bit more.
"Oh trust me, I do." I said, still unable to take my eyes off the ring. He took my hand into his and kissed every knuckle. Once he he got to the finger with the ring, his smile grew even wider.
"It looks good on you." He said softly and gave it a little kiss.
"It really does, doesn't it?" I said back. My face was starting to hurt from all the smiling, but it was impossible to keep it off my face.
Who would've known that this was where I was going to end up? Engaged to John Deacon, happier than I had ever been before.
Truth is, I don't I ever thought I would be here. I never thought I would find someone who loved and respected me as their equal. My past was filled with failed relationships, William being the most recent one. And the most hurtful. I would love to be able to go back in time and tell that broken shell of a woman what her future would look like. I would tell her that she'd be alright. She'd get through it.
But enough dwelling in the past. My eyes were now set (and very steadily may I add) to my future with John. I looked up from the ring to meet his dark green eyes. Their beauty still took me by surprise every time I saw them. And tonight, they looked the happiest I had ever seen them.
I lunged myself at him, throwing him on his back on the bed and wrapped my arms tightly around him. Without a moment of hesitation he wrapped his arms around me and held me on top of his chest.
"You're going to marry me." I giggled and as the words left my lips an overwhelming wave of happiness washed over me, the reality settling in my mind for the first time. I was actually going to be married to this man.
"I'm going to marry you so hard." He said and I burst out laughing.
"You're such a dork." I said and he laughed with me.
"I know." He said and planted a kiss on my cheek.
I knew that Lisa would skin me alive if I didn't let her know about the ring the next day, and so I invited her and Ciarán over to 'help with the furniture'. John and I were in the kitchen arranging out cutlery and china into the cabinets when I heard the front door opening.
"Hello?" Lisas voice rung through the house.
"In the kitchen!" John shouted back and soon we could hear two sets of feet approaching. I put my arm around John to hide my hand from the two. Soon Lisa popped into the kitchen, Ciarán following right behind.
"Why are you standing like that?" Lisa asked immediately as she saw us.
"What do you mean? We're standing in a perfectly normal way." I told her.
"No you're not. You look like you're posing. In like a magazine or something." Ciarán added and Lisa nodded along to his words.
John looked down at me with an amused smile. I suppose they were right.
"Well..." I started and smiled back at John before meeting Lisa and Ciarán with my gaze again. "While we do need help setting everything in place, there was an another reason why we asked you two to come here. Close your eyes." I told them and they both did as told. I took my hand from behind John.
"Lisa, give me your hand." I told her.
"Are you going to put like a dead mouse in it?" She asked, scrunching her nose in suspicion.
