It's a little angsty but it has a good ending, I've decided that all of my oneshots are going to be in the second person point of view (you, your, ext.) unless a request or suggestion says otherwise, thank you for being so patient with me!

It was the day your hero class went their separate ways. You had graduated and everyone was leaving for the agencies that hired them and your group of friends were mostly going in different directions but decided to say goodbye at the train station together. Tokoyami was going one way and Jiro was going another. You and Shoji had one train one way then went your separate ways.
"Oh I'm really going to miss you guys." You told Jiro and Tokoyami hugging them. Even though Toko's never been much of a hugger. Dark shadow was out wanting to say his goodbyes to.
"Hey just remember we're a call away." Jiro told you wiping her eyes.
"I know but I hate talking over the phone ." You told her on the brink of ugly crying.
She inconspicuously pulled you away as toko and Mezo were bro hugging.
"Are you gonna tell him?" She asked sniffing.
"Are you kidding me? Of course not." You said wiping your cheek.
"But it might be the last time you get to see him." She told you.
Her train was almost at the station.
"That's exactly my point, I may never see him again. Your trains almost here. I love you Ji." You told her hugging her again.
"God I thought I was going to hate high school, now I want to go back." She said.
"Yeah I know."
"Love you n/n" (nick name)
"You're going to miss it, please don't forget to take care of yourself." You told her as she grabbed her bag.
The train came to a screeching stop before the doors opened.
"I could say the same to you, Call me whe you get off your train. And please tell him." She whispered he last part.
"Oh just get on the train." You told her crying.
She gave you one last wave before stepping on and out of sight.
The next one scheduled was Toko's.
"Hey guys." You walked over to them red eyed.
"It's not like we're dying come here." Toko told you bringing you into a hug.
He may seem a little out of character but you've never been a cryer and look at you.
"May as well be, you're gone be on the other side of the country." You told him sniffing.
Mezo stood there rather awkwardly.
"Oh come here you lug." You told him signaling him into the hug.
He wrapped his arms around the both of you.
"We need to all visit each other soon, I don't think I can stand not seeing you guys." Mezo said.
"Yeah-." You were interrupted by the screech of Toko's train.
You looked at the bird headed, now official hero with a sad expression.
"I'm supposed to be the sad one, pull yourself together." He told you laughing trying not to be too sad.
"Rivalry in the dark." You said in a low voice then started crying again. Mezo patted yourself back as you felt your heart flutter.
Toko steppes onto the train, but before he went out of view he sent a wink your way.
You face got hot as you knew what he meant.
"How long for our train?" You asked your tall friend.
"It should be pulling up now." He said looking off somewhere that wasn't at you.
"Hey, we're not gonna drift apart, I would never let that happen." You told him.
"I know." He said sounding a little choked up.
You've never really seen him sad, disappointed, but not sad. He looks almost longing as your train pulled up.
"We have a hour and 45 minute train ride to say our goodbyes, come on you big lug." You told him grabbing your bag.
He let out an amused breath as he followed you onto the train.
since it was such a late train going so far, it was almost empty. So you got a compartment and the others around you were empty as well.
You sat down diagonal from each other since Mezo's legs are so long.
You talked for a while.
"Hey remember that one summer break we went out to my parents farm and raced the carts with Jiro and toko?" You asked.
"How could I forget, you flipped one." He laughed.
God you loved the sound of his voice, especially when it wasn't so serious.
And you love how he can basically adapt to anything, I mean this transition may not be to hard for him.
God you loved him. You I have for a while but you were so close if anything ever happened it would probably weird. You were content with the daydreams of him for a while but now you think you're just tearing yourself apart trying not to let anyone know. If he asked you to, you'd reject the job at your agency and change all your plans to be with him. But he wouldn't do that, even if he loved you back.
"Promise me you'll be careful." He looked at you seriously.
"Of course, I always am."
"No I mean, really careful. I couldn't forgive myself if anything happened and I wasn't there."
He does this a lot. Puts the weight of the world on his shoulders for others. He can carry a lot more then most but he's got enough to carry.
"I'll be fine, please don't worry about me the whole time." You told him.
"I won't, just call me whenever you get the chance." He told you.
He was leaning forward, looking rather distressed.
"Are you okay? Did something happen?" You asked.
He looked up at you with a look that sent a shiver down your spine. And not in a good way.
"I'm going on a mission, in a few days. I wish I could give you more details." He told you.
Out of everyone, why Mezo why did they have to send him away?
"You're kidding." You told him.
"I can't answer your calls, just leave voicemails or something, please." He told you sadly.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier? How long have you been keeping this Mezo?"
He cleared his throat.
"I knew since I got hired, I didn't want you to worry about it I know you were already bummed everyone was leaving." He told you.
"How long are you gonna be gone?" You asked putting your hand over his that was resting on his leg.
"It could be months."
Not hearing from him for months feels like a bad dream to you.
Please wake up.
But when you blinked, you were still in that train compartment, crying again.
"Promise me you'll be careful." You looked up at him.
"I'll be careful."
"Promise me." You told him.
"I promise." He said squeezing you hand.
"And promise me once you get back we can get sushi." You said to him.
"Y/n-."
"Humor me? Please?"
He paused for a second before talking again.
"I promise."
You of course thought it was outrageous that they'd send a hero straight out of high school on a mission. I mean you knew Mezo was more then capable of doing this, but isn't there someone more experienced for this.
"Is it dangerous?" You asked.
"I can't tell you anything about it."
"I'm just asking if you're going to be in grave danger, Mezo."
He paused.
"Very, I'll be diving into a volcano." He said in a joking manner. You looked at him unamused.
"Your description of danger or mine, because their very different." He told you. You scoffed wiping the tears of your cheeks for the 5 millionth time today.
"I'll be okay, just some information gathering, if everything goes according to plan I won't even have to fight." He told you.
"Well things don't always go to plan with us do they?"
You weren't just referring to your high school experience which was borderline garbage. But right when you were thinking about telling him you loved him, he was leaving for who knows how long. Bad luck was all you could come to.
"The odds aren't in our favor huh?" He asked.
"Nope." You laughed just wanting to spend the rest of the the train ride pretending you'll see him tomorrow. Which you won't.
He wanted to take his mission, he knew that keeping in constant contact with you will make this harder. He loved you, he actually loved you first which is what you wouldn't expect. He doesn't want to tell you and him not make it back, that would leave to many things left unsaid. And the mission he's going on is actually really dangerous even for your standards. He knew you'd never feel the same so he plans in drowning himself in work until these feelings go away. Because you deserve better. But you can't just unlove someone. Sadly. Because he's to chicken to tell you and you think there isn't a point. And you're supposed to be observant hero's. You two can't even tell when someone's into you.
You both thought it was a mutual platonic love. But both of you are secret hopeless romantics and hope that maybe someday soon it'll start to work out and you can finally confess.
"When did everything get so complicated?" You asked rubbing your head.
"Its been like this since our first year." He told you.
"I don't mean hero stuff, I just remember how easy it was to not think about loosing you guys. Now all that's going through my head is us drifting apart." You told him.
Before he had time to tell you everything's going to work out fine, the train came to a Stop.
You looked at each other for a second, wishing this wasn't your stop, that you didn't have to go off in different directions.
Once you found out where he was working you thought about finding a job in his city saying they gave you a better offer. But you can't hold onto your high school friends forever. His train was leaving a few minutes before yours so you walked him to his platform.
"I love you." You told him knowing he was going to take it how you said I love you to Jiro just two hours earlier.
"Yeah I love you too." He said hugging you for a little longer then how friends should hug each other.
"I'll see you." He told you separating.
The sun was setting and the way the orange of the sky hit his grey hair reminding you he was really leaving for some odd reason.
"Yeah see you." You told him as he turned around to step on his train, he gave you one last wave before he stepped out of view. You felt tears roll down your cheeks, soaking your face but you barely made a sound in the quiet train station only hearing some quiet chatter and the screeching on trains.
Should I have let him go like that?
Of course! If I told him he'd be distracted for his mission.
You, Jiro, and Tokoyami kept in good contact for a while, then Toko has his own stuff to deal with and you drifted apart. After Mezo got back from his mission you barely heard anything from him. You left him a voice message almost every day like he asked. A while passed and you remembered it was his birthday so you decided to call him. He didn't pick up.
"Hey Mezo, it's been a while since I left one of these but, I just wanted to say happy birthday, you're probably busy but, hope your doing okay, and hope your mission went well even though you got back a few weeks ago. Love ya still you big lug, don't think I forgot about you I'm just busy." You ended the message on a high note. Putting down your phone you sat in your living room trying to distract yourself somehow.
An hour and some passed when you got a call from Jiro.
"Hey, Ji." You answered with a stuffy nose.
"What's wrong?" She asked concerned.
"It's Mezo's birthday, I just left him a voicemail." You told her letting yourself sink further into the couch.
"He didn't pick up?"
"No, I hasn't been answering my calls." You told her sadly.
"Is he cutting you off?" She asked.
That felt like a fever dream, Mezo cutting you off is probably your worst nightmare.
"I hope not."
"You could tell him you love him you know, since you don't talk it won't change anything." She told you. You thought about it for a second.
"He has his own life, I don't want to go and mess it up."
"You miss him right?" She asked.
"Of course I do." You told her.
"Go and see him, I'm sure he's just busy and doesn't have the time." She reassured.
"I don't know if that's a good idea."
"It's your choice but I can't imagine him not being happy to see you."
"Alright." You said.
"Ill go visit him."
Mezo listened to all of the voicemails, whenever he missed you which completely destroys the point of getting over you, but he couldn't help it, he didn't want to forget what you sounded like.
He saw that you left another one while he was in the shower. It was only sent a few minutes ago.
"Hey Mezo, it's been a while since I left one of these but, I just wanted to say happy birthday, you're probably busy but, hope your doing okay, and hope your mission went well even though you got back a few weeks ago. Love ya still you big lug, don't think I forgot about you I'm just busy." There was a voice crack at the end, he figured you must be going through something, that he shouldn't bother you.
"Yeah I love you too." He said tossing his phone onto the couch cushion beside him.
You remembering his birthday baffled him, he knew when yours was of course, but after all this time something that signaled you still cared made his heart jump out of his chest. Another sign that he didn't deserve you.
He was trying to think logically like he always does but he knew he had to see you.
He didn't want to do this to himself but a reunion is long over due.
It was your 20th birthday while he was on his mission, and that almost killed him, he counted down the days and as I turned midnight he mentally wished you a happy birthday. Wishing he could legitimately tell you.
He would've called you first but, he wasn't thinking how he usually does.
He grabbed his phone and left to catch whatever train was headed in your direction.
An hour train ride felt like days for him, he was constantly checking his phone. When finally the train stopped.
What am I thinking, I can't just show up unannounced, she's probably doing fine without me.
Then his phone started ringing, it was you.
He almost dropped it he was so surprised.
"Hello?" He brought it to his ear after fumbling with it for a few seconds.
"Oh wow, that was fast. I didn't expect you to answer at all." You told him.
"Yeah I'm sorry-."
"Listen, I can't take not seeing you, I'm at the station right now, I'm about to get my ticket." You told him obviously not thinking to clearly yourself.
"Wait! Don't." He told you looking around for you in the circumstantially crowded train satiation.
"What do you mean?"
He saw you, standing in line by the tickets before he knew it he was right behind you.
"Turn around." He said.
You thought the audio sounded weird thinking your phone was acting up, almost echoey, but you did as he said.
You turned around to see Mezo, looking only a little more mature then when you saw him last.
He was surprised at you cutting your hair to only reach or shoulders, he would've recognized you if he didn't see the side of your face.
"Did we have the same idea?" You asked in shock.
Really, the an you've been in love with since you were 17 has just shown up in your city looking for you and that's the first thing you say. You thought mentally telling yourself to stop being stupid.
"I think so, you just had the sense to call first." He told you standing there hanging up the phone. Yours was still by your ear. You lowered it trying not to seem as shocked as you were.
"I know I'm a jerk I-." You hugged him, and surprised him with the sheer strength of your hug.
"Don't ever ignore my calls again." You told him stuffing your face into his chest.
"I have to tell you something." He told you looking down at you.
"Is this going to change everything?" You asked.
He honestly didn't know what confessing to would change.
"Not unless you want it to." He told you.
This time it was cold. Mid February to be exact.
"What is it?" You asked.
He pulled you to the side because no strangers want to see him get his heart broken.
Those strangers would probably want to see a sene straight out of a sappy hallmark movie.
"I know I've been rude, I shouldn't have ignored your calls." He said grabbing your hands standing in an emptier part of the station. Which happened to be halfway outside, And you were freezing.
"I mean yeah. That was pretty douchie of you." You commented.
"And Im probably not in any place to say this but I'm in love with you, not in a friends way, I have been since our first year at UA and I've never stopped." He confessed bending down to where you were at a better eye level. Since he's obviously extremely tall, it made it rather awkward to look at him in the eyes.
"Really?" You asked. He looked confused at that.
I mean why would he lie, if he could stop he would so both of you could focus.
"Of course I'm serious, why would I come all the way over here?" He asked.
"I don't know, it's just weird that this is finally happening." You told him.
He tilted his head at your statement not knowing what to think.
"What are you saying?" He asked leaning in curiously.
"Why do you think I was going to get on a train and come to you? Jeez Mezo you're smart but sometimes-."
"You mean you love me to? Like romantically?" He asked.
"I have for years."
He scooped you up in a big hug, you felt blush flood your cheeks as he did this. He never hated hugs but he never initiated the hug you know?
That doesn't matter, what matters is the person you've been in love with for three years have been in love with you for four. (Haha for four)
"Imagine, we could've been like this years ago." You commented.
"Don't remind me."
"You still have to take me to get sushi."
