Kat lands and lets out a loud cheer after finishing a massive rally that Wisconsin needed to change the tide of the game against Baylor in the final game of the NCAA D1 Volleyball Tournament. The entire arena erupts in a cheer as Wisconsin finally takes the lead for the first time in the match. Baylor took the first set 22-19 stunning the Badgers and also the second set 25-23. Wisconsin had trailed Baylor the entire third match as if their undefeated season wouldn't go out the window if they lost this set and got swept by Baylor.
Kat throws her hands up urging the crowd to cheer them on as she roofs Baylor's number one hitter and goes on a roll for points. Baylor calls timeout as Wisconsin pulls ahead by three.
Sheffield gives Kat the floor as she attempts to energize her team, "Are we going to give it up to them that easy!?" Kat demands.
"NO!" Her team yells.
"Are we going to let them walk up in here and disrespect an undefeated team like this!?" Kat yells.
"NO!"
"Then everyone dig down deep and PROTECT THIS FUCKING HOUSE!" Kat commands and they take the court with a new found fire.
Kat continues to play good defense making sure to block as good as she can and dig up every ball even if it meant throwing herself halfway across the court and over the benches. Somehow Kat manages to score every point and win the set against Baylor 25-17.
"Two more ladies, two more!" Kat encourages as the take the court for set four. She hadn't been to a fifth game in weeks and wondered if her body could handle the fatigue. She was already feeling worn out.
Kat looks down at her stomach, "If I lose this game cause of you, you will never hear the end of it."
Holland looks over at Kat concerned, "Who are you talking to?"
Kat shrugs, "I'm constipated."
Holland laughs and honestly that little bit of humor is what the team needed right now.
Kat goes up for a massive hit and swings through sending the ball down the line for another points. She lands, but the Baylor setter was under the net from reaching on her block and Kat lands on the Baylor player's foot.
"OW!" Kat cries out as she twists her ankle and goes down cringing in pain.
The arena goes silent as the Baylor players back away as if they were watching a crime scene. Kat Bledsoe never gets hurt. But here she is cringing while grabbing at her ankle in pain.
Kat breathes trying to get her heart rate down and concentrate on the pain in her ankle. She rolls it around and cringes.
"Fuck," Kat moans and does a single leg squat to stand on her own.
Kat limps off the court as her sub comes in and takes a seat at the end on the bench. The trainers start to mess with her ankle and ask her questions, but she's blacked out. She doesn't hear anything.
"Get CY," Kat finally says as the sound of the crowd surges into her ears as Holland steps up to make a huge block on her end.
"What?" The trainer asks.
"Get Christian over here now!" Kat snaps and the trainer scurries away to find the baseball player.
Christian squats down and feels Kat's ankle, "You think its broken?" Kat asks as she begins to panic that she isn't going to be able to finish her finals game as a college volleyball player.
"It's a little warm," Christian admits as he takes her shoe and ankle brace off.
Kat starts to hyperventilate, "What if its broken!?"
Christian grabs her arm and pulls her back to planet Earth, "Kat! Calm down."
Kat continues to freak out as she sees the end of her season, "But, but, but," she sobs.
"You independent women be disobedient as fuck," Christian groans and shakes Kat's shoulders.
"I wanna play," Kat cries.
Christian grabs her chin, "Look I know you don't need me right now, but just listen to me damn!" Christian yells and Kat quiets down very quickly. "Look, its not broken. Have them tape you tight as get your ass back on that floor and win this freaking game we'll deal with the bruising tomorrow."
Kat nods and sniffles as the trainer comes back to wrap her already swollen ankle. Once she's all taped up Kat jogs around a few times and takes a couple of practice jumps to make sure.
Sheffield motions for Kat to come talk to him as Wisconsin goes back to serve match point, "Kat, you've already beat you numbers from last year you don't need to go in," Sheffield tries to assure her.
Kat glares at her coach, "When I agreed to come to this school you said we would win two national championship. I can't win a second one from the bench Sheffield."
The head coach raises his eyebrows but nods, "Fine Bledsoe you're back in for set five."
Kat does a celebratory dance and goes to her captains meeting as Wisconsin makes it to set five against Baylor.
When Kat comes back she is riled up again, "This one is to 15 ladies lets do this."
The arena we silent as Kat Bledsoe went up for the final hit of her college career. Christian watched and felt like everything was in slow motion as Kat took her usual three step approach and reached high for the ball. Her ankle injury prevented her from jumping her full height, but that worked in her favor as her opponents were used to her hitting from a much higher angle. Kat swung through the ball and sent it deep to the back line. She landed lightly and fell to knees as the Baylor liberal missed the pass and Wisconsin capitalized on their second National Championship by beating Baylor 15-0 in the final set in a five game match.
