His lips curled and his eyes darkened with fury. A shudder racked through his body and I saw his hands curl into fists, knuckles turning white. He turned back to face Lucian who had managed to stand up again.
I had never seen him that angry.
"How fucking dare you!" He growled before he launched himself at Lucian.
They were both approximately the same height but Sebastian was broader and more muscled.
"Sebastian-" I tried again but he didn't hear me. He was far too consumed with his anger. I forced myself to sit up, gritting my teeth at the agonizing pain I felt in my ribs.
I watched in horror as Sebastian drove his fist into Lucian's face making him fall to the ground once more with a hard thud.
Sebastian's hands wrapped around Lucian's throat.
"Do you know you are fighting for dirty Vitale blood right now?" Lucian suddenly hissed spitting the blood in his mouth to the floor.
My heart plummeted to my stomach.
No
Not like this
Sebastian's whole body went still over him.
"What the fuck are you talking about?" Sebastian snarled.
Lucian shook his head mockingly completely oblivious to the fact that Sebastian's hands were still around his throat.
"Why don't you see for yourself?" Lucian chuckled as his hand reached into his pocket.
I was frozen in place my body filled with terror and shock at the scene unfolding.
He held the picture in front of Sebastian's face. "You recognize the man in the picture, don't you? You couldn't forget the face of Carlos Vitale, the man who killed Matteo."
Sebastian's eyes scanned over the picture. "Where did you get this picture and what are you talking about? Tell me before I decide to kill you." He scowled.
Lucian chuckled again, his eyes cutting to me briefly. "The innocent little girl standing beside Vitale, his precious daughter. Why does she look so familiar?" Lucian's gaze hardened "That's your precious Angelica. She is Carlos Vitale's daughter."
"You have lost your goddamn mind!" Sebastian practically roared.
"Read this if you don't believe me." Lucian held out my mother's letter in Sebastian's direction.
I watched numbly as Sebastian reached for the piece of paper in Lucian's hand.
I knew in my heart that everything was going to change once he read it.
My whole body started trembling.
I wanted to run but it was too late for that now.
Sebastian's eyes scanned the letter. His expression stayed completely blank giving nothing away.
His eyes finally lifted from the piece of paper and turned to me.
"Is this true?" He asked quietly.
"Sebastian, I'm sorry I didn't tell you. I was too scared. I'm so sorry." Tears started trailing down my cheeks as I struggled to find the right words
"That is not what I asked you." His voice was eerily calm, emotionless. "I asked you whether this is true or not?"
I swallowed.
"It's true." I finally whispered.
Someone cried out in surprise and that's when I noticed that a crowd had gathered around us. People from the Christmas Eve celebration.
"Everyone, out!" Sebastian suddenly bellowed. His voice filled with authority and menace.
I watched as people scurried away, quickly disappearing from sight till there were only three people left.
Sebastian, Lucian, and myself.
"Sebastian, please listen to me." I tried but he turned away from me completely. I watched his shoulders heave.
Lucian got up and dusted off his clothes, clicking his tongue in mock sympathy. "She really had you fooled, didn't she, fratello maggiore?"
A jolt of surprise raced up my spine.
Fratello maggiore
Big brother
Lucian had just called Sebastian his brother.
My heart started pacing.
Something Sebastian had said to me long ago suddenly popped into my mind.
Lucian is next in line by blood to lead this family. Second only to the current Don.
My mind was racing.
If Lucian was second in line-
"Don't you think it's time Angelica met the head of the Alfonsi family?" Lucian drawled.
For a moment there was silence.
I felt like I was suffocating.
Finally, Sebastian spoke. "You are right, Lucian. I agree." He turned to face me and I gasped.
His face was hard, his eyes distant and cold.
No
"Allow me to introduce myself," Sebastian spoke, his voice a complete void of emotion. "I am Sebastian Alfonsi. Son of Alessandro Alfonsi and brother of Matteo Alfonsi, two of the men your father killed thirteen years ago."
This is not happening.
This is a nightmare.
Wake up, Angelica.
His expression hardened. His features become harsh and unforgiving. "I am the head of the Alfonsi family. I am the current Don."
His lips twisted up cruelly. The same lips that had soothed me so many times, the same lips that had kissed me so tenderly.
"It's a pleasure to meet you, Miss Vitale." His voice was soft but there wasn't an ounce of warmth in it.
"You may call me il Demonio (the Devil)."
