"That's gonna give us a decent boost of points there," Jevin commented, counting the tiny ornament-like heads in his palms. "Thanks teaming with me, it'll really us out in the long run."

"No problem dude," Cub replied, stuffing his tiny slime heads in the enderchest. "Now I gotta get going, gotta meet up with someone."

"Oh, who is it? Scar I'm assuming?" Cub froze, looking up at Jevin who stared expectantly back. "I haven't seen you two hang out much this season."

Cub dropped his gaze, popping the enderchest back into his inventory. "No, not Scar. It's uh, Doc. We just wanted to do some trading."

Jevin raised an eyebrow curiously. "You guys really just aren't that close anymore huh?" he asked. "That's a real shame, you two were so great together."

"It's not my fault he's being a prick," Cub muttered, sitting down on the mycelium.

"Hm, something's telling me that something else is going on." Jevin sat down next to him. "So wanna tell me?"

Cub sighed, looking down and fidgeting with his hands. "I- well..." He looked up with soft, guilty eyes. "Promise you won't tell anyone I said this?"

"Promise," Jevin said, nodding.

Cub took a deep breath and sighed again. "Truth is, me and Scar have kinda... fallen out with each other," he admitted, avoiding Jevin's gaze. "We've barely talked this season and the one time we did it uh, didn't end well to say the least."

"And you said this was Scar's fault? How so?"

"Because he betrayed me for fuck's sake!" Cub yelled, glaring up at the hermit. Jevin stared back calmly, only tilting his head slightly at Cub's outburst. The shorter winced slightly and dropped his gaze. "Uh, sorry Jev..."

"It's fine," Jevin replied, smiling slightly. "Now, continue with the whole betrayal thing. I'm intrigued."

"Scar freaking left me! He just straight-up abandoned me and the Vex and he didn't even tell me!" he continued. "He just left for that stupid jungle and stupid Gr-" He cut myself himself off and coughed awkwardly. "Er, the stupid headgames. And he beat me in that! With someone else nonetheless!"

Jevin nodded, leaning back on his hands. "And what have you done?"

"Huh?" Cub looked up with a confused stare.

"And what have y-"

"I heard you the first time!" he snapped. "What the hell do you mean "what've you done"?! I've done nothing!"

"Well arguments certainly don't happen just because of one person," Jevin explained. "You must've done something. Has Scar been ignoring you?"

"No he just keeps trying to talk to me," Cub mumbled.

"And how do you react?"

"I..." Cub sighed, ducking his head. "I ignore him," he whispered, starting to see the wrong being his actions.

Jevin chuckled slightly, grinning. "Well there's part of the problem! Ignoring won't fix anything!" Cub turned his head away when Jevin glanced expectantly at him. "You do want to fix things with him, right?"

"Of-! Course not..." His voice faltered and died in his throat, making his sentence sound more forced than he meant it to be. "O-of course I don't..." He shook his head, the hard glare returning to his eyes. "Why're you trying to give me advice anyways? What would you know about?!"

The smile dropped from Jevin's face and turned to a cold stare. "What would I know?" he repeated, his voice dangerously low and bending down to match the shorter's gaze. "Cub. I've lost 3 of the people that meant the most to me. The ones I loved with all my heart. You think I don't know anything about this?"

"Jev I-I'm so sorr-"

"Wow, you seem so quick to apologize!" Jevin interrupted, sneering. "Maybe if Scar were to just quick being patient for 1 fucking second, maybe then you would actually see how arrogant you're being!"

He sighed and pressed a hand over his eyes, his temper still stirring with frustration. "You're lucky Scar's so nice and sweet," he muttered in a low voice close to a growl. "This isn't how friendship should go, ya know that? You're just being straight-up manipulative."

"I am not!" Cub shot back, pushing away the twinge of guilt pricking at his heart. "And I know how friendship's supposed to work! That's why I'm just trying to push him away! It's easiest for both of us if we just go our separate ways!"

"Do you really know that Cub?" Jevin challenged, glowering. He sighed. "You're a smart man Cub, I know that. But I think if you really knew that, if you truly, deep in your heart, knew that..."

"Then you would actually do something about it."
