The ride home was very awkward. Not only was it dead silent but Tiffany kept calling Cameron on his phone. Cameron ignored the first two calls but then picked up on the third one.
Cameron's currently talking to her right now.
"No... Im sorry......yes....yes I still love you" he glanced at my direction for a quick second, then went back to the road . "Yes, yes I promise i'll drive you next time..okay....bye..love you." He hung up his phone and put it back in his pocket, and then the dead silence returned.
I still don't know why he picked me over Tiffany. I bet you he regrets it now.
"So.." Cameron started "how did your first day go?"
"It was fine"
"Have you made any friends yet?"
"Well yes, I guess"
"What do you mean?" He looked at me since we were at at red light.
"Well there's this guy name Moses I met today, he was nice and helped show me around the school today"
"Well there you go you got a friend"
"I guess, but I don't know it is after all still the first day, we'll see what happens"
He just nodded
We made it back to our street after five more minutes of silence. He parked in his driveway and after that we both just sat inside of his car.
"I guess I'll see you around then Darren" Cameron turned to me and smiled.
"Yeah" we both then got out of the car at the same time. "Bye Cameron"
"See you around" he replied then I started to cross the street to Derek's house.
*****
It's been two weeks since Cameron dropped me off that one day. Ever since that day him and I haven't talked to each other. I guess that's what's for the best. I don't want to interfere with his relationship with Tiffany anymore. I learned my lesson the first time because after that day Cameron ditched her she's been sending me death glares during French and Calculus. She also got some big guy and threatened to beat me if I didn't leave Cameron and Tiffany alone. I don't know what she was worrying about nothing's going on between me and Cameron. But I don't think I can handle myself if I got beaten again. I mean after all that is what I was running away from. So I left Cameron and Tiffany alone.
Im currently at my favorite spot to sit at for lunch, which was the tree I sat under on the first day of school. Im nibbling on my sandwich and reading a book.
"Darren" Moses said as he walked to where I was.
"Hey Mo" I smiled looking up at him.
"Sup little guy" he said ruffling my hair as he sat down right next to me.
"Hey, just cause your so freakishly tall doesn't mean you can call me little" I playfully punched his arm. He just chuckled.
"So Darren, what are you doing after school today?"
"Nothing really, I just finished my Calculus homework so now I don't have homework today"
"That's awesome, then you wouldn't mind supporting you buddy during his soccer practice?"
"But I thought you had to make the team first.....wait a minute did you make the team?"
"Mhmmm" Moses said nodding his head.
"Oh my god congratulations" I screamed hugging him.
"Thanks Darren, so will you come?"
"Yes, of course yes" I was so happy for Moses. He told me how soccer is his life and he would do anything to get into the team since over 40 students tried out for the varsity team and the coach would only pick 20.
