"i wish i were heather."

"will, can you come to the kitchen please, i need to talk to you about something." joyce called.

will looked at max and dustin and hurried to the table with them.

"can max and dustin be here? please?" will begged.

"uh, sure, i don't see why not. later tonight, hopper and eleven are coming by for dinner." joyce said.

will looked over at max and dustin then back at his mother.

"okay, but...why, exactly?" will asked.

"well...hopper and i have some news for you and eleven. jonathan knew already, but hopper and i have been...seeing each other." joyce explained.

"oh. how long?"

"almost a year." joyce looked down.

"and jonathan knew for a whole year and eleven and i didn't?" will questioned

"i'm sorry we didn't tell you, but with everything that happened, i thought that it would've just been easier for you to not have to think about me being in another relationship and just live your life." joyce sighed.

"i guess that makes sense." will said.

"alright, well i'm glad that we're on the same page. you kids go back to enjoying your summer." joyce smiled.

will grabbed max and dustin and pulled them outside.

"what the hell is happening in my life?" will blurted when they got outside.

"will, hopper is a great guy and i'm sure he's good to your mom." max comforted.

"no, it's not about hopper!" will put his face in his hands.

"well then what else could it be?" dustin asked.

"eleven! she's basically my sister now!" will exclaimed.

"first of all, they're not married, so she's not your sister, and second of all, she's in our friend group so i don't see the problem." dustin said.

"it's just..." will trailed off.

"it's because she's dating mike, isn't it." max finished.

will didn't say anything, he just rubbed his eyes.

"you guys probably have to go, right?" will finally said.

"not for a little while, will. we want-."

"maybe you guys should go. bye max, bye dustin." will interrupted max.

"are you sure you want us to go? i don't want to leave you alone right now, will." max put a hand on his shoulder.

"it's okay max, you guys have been with me for weeks, just go." will nodded.

dustin and max looked at each other, then got on their bikes.

"bye, will." dustin murmured and they rode away.

will watched them ride away and then went back to his room.

max was right, will did not want to have dinner with the girl who was dating his crush.
