"Do you need help?"
"Do you need some help?" Jimin shot back, now full on jamming the key inside. Jungkook couldn't help it, he let out a laugh which made Jimin blush. The younger boy reached out a hand, placing it on Jimin's sturdy shoulder to gently pull him away from the blue door. He then took the key out of Jimin's frustrated grip, placing it inside the slot and the two of them stood there, side by side, as they listened to the loud screech of the apartment door swing open.
"See. Easy." Jungkook said with a grin, handing the key back to Jimin and then stepping back to let him go inside first.
"Says the big, strong, man." Jimin replied, rolling his eyes as he walked inside his own apartment as if he had no help with getting into it in the first place. The lights were off, the place empty as Taehyung had gone to help Seokjin with finishing his club after his shift was over at the bakery.
"Aw, you think I'm strong?" Jungkook cooed as Jimin turned on the lights. The boy had a stupid smile on his face as he pretended to flex his arms.
Jimin, seeing this, poked at the boy's stomach with his finger, "I think you're big," he teased as he slipped his shoes off by the door, Jungkook doing the same with a feigned hurt expression.
"Ouch! My pride! My ego! I feel it slipping!" Jungkook yelled dramatically, his hand gripping his heart over his chest. When Jimin grinned, Jungkook's smile grew even wider. It was like a small victory. In fact, he was too distracted by the response that he almost forgot to take in Jimin's apartment. It was well kept, very modern in the black and white tones, some sparks of gold and pink here and there. The place smelled of vanilla and cinnamon, the center room being an open kitchen with a large, black, bar like island off to the side. The area opened to a cozy living room made up of a tv playing some r&b music the boys seemed to have forgotten to turn off in the morning.
"Anyway. Lemonade." Jimin said as he moved to drop of his stuff on one of the island stools, motioning for Jungkook to sit on the stool next to it. He then ran a hand through his hair before turning around to head to the fridge, bending down unintentionally to grab a pitcher of yellow liquid on one the lower shelves. Jungkook, of course, wished that the drink was much further buried in that particular shelf so that Jimin could stay in his current position for much longer.
When Jimin turned around with the pitcher in hand, Jungkook was grinning like an idiot. He had his hands folded on the top of the island table, leaning forward slightly with his dark bangs hanging just above his eyes. He glanced down at the lemonade in Jimin's hand with bewilderment, as if he had just seen Santa fall from the chimney himself. "What?" Jimin snapped, looking down at the pitcher and then at Jungkook's goofy expression as if he were trying to solve a particularly hard trig equation.
"Nothing," Jungkook laughed as he leaned back, shaking his head slightly. He made eye contact with Jimin who seemed to be standing stiffly now, his chin high in the air, eyes daring the boy to make fun of him. Jungkook placed his hands behind his own neck, letting out a breath as he could feel an unfamiliar rush run through him - staring at this cute boy who would invite a stranger up for lemonade because he thought that he was having a bad day. "It's just - we'll that's adorable. That you were serious, about the lemonade, I mean."
"Oh shut up," Jimin dismissed, grabbing a cup and beginning to pour the lemonade. "I'm doing this out of pity - remember. You and your pale friend seemed really heated-"
"Yoongi?" Jungkook answered, seemingly amused by the description of 'pale friend." "Don't worry about that. Or, worry if it means you'll think of me. Me and the geezer disagree sometimes, I just get the worst of it since I'm the youngest working. My dad was in construction so it seemed natural for me to give a hand at it - turns out I'm quite the talent." Jungkook then leaned forward, wiggling his fingers a bit with a wink, "People say I'm quite magical with hand -y work. I could show you sometime."
"Do you work with your dad then?" Jimin said, choosing to ignore that last bit.
"Nah, not anymore." Jungkook said disappointingly at Jimin's lack of obnoxious flirting, taking a sip of the overly sweet lemonade instead and trying to play off the kick back of it with a well choreographed cough. "My old man got in a car accident a couple years back after getting a drunk poker night. Guess working now is kinda my way of keeping him alive." He said nonchalantly, the way one does after repeating a story one too many times to one too many people, but there was a darkness that flickered across his eyes.
Jimin looked genuinely apologetic, his expression softening in demeanor as well. The boy having not been exposed to much negativity in his life, but he seemed to be trying his best to be understanding. "I'm sorry-" he started but Jungkook cut him off, feeling his face heat from Jimin's reaction and wanting to make the boy less uncomfortable.
"No need to be." He said with a smile, not a cocky or condescending one, just a regular I've Moved On But Thank You type of smile that didn't quite reach his eyes. Funny enough, it seemed the most genuine out of all the grins and smirks and winks Jungkook had thrown Jimin's way today. "Yoongi kind of took me under his wing after it happened. Gave me a job, a home. An escape more than anything else. Besides, if it weren't for my past, who's to say if I would be drinking over sweet minute made with an overly sweet hottie."
"Why do you do that?"
"Do what?" Jungkook asked back, guessing it was the 180 flirting Jimin was asking him about. He tilted his head, thinking over his answer carefully before running a hand through his hair and smiling. "Because I like you," He started, leaning back, "and I find you being flustered adorable."
"It's not some coping mechanism or front -"
"Due to my dark and checkered past? Come on Jimin, not everyone gets shaken by childhood trauma. Why does it have to be some psychological ploy." Jungkook leaned in, narrowing his eyes slightly, "Don't make it out to be something it's not."
"Well it's just every time you say something real you back track by flirting-" Jimin was suddenly cut off by the sound of a key turning his front door, the rusty screech of it like a clock at midnight.
"Jimin? Taehyung?" Said a voice Jungkook didn't recognize but with way Jimin perked you, the blond boy definitely did. It echoed through the halls making Jimin's eyes dart straight to Jungkook with worry and his cheeks blush. Jungkook guesses having strange, incredibly hot, boys, in his apartment wasn't a norm.
"Hey guys sorry for bargining in like this but I never returned your key after you lent it to me next week." The voice continued from the hallway. The steps of his feet like thunder in Jimin's ears. "Jin's asking for you guys. I know you aren't that close with his boyfriend, but Namjoon and I just went out to buy some - who the hell are you?"
