The sudden realisation that you can never really know a person, that you can only get to know about a person as they allow you to

Flash Thompson's P.O.V
Flash and Peter tried to jump to their feet but they tripped over each other. Eventually they untangled themselves from the pile of crates and looked at the speaker.

It was a slightly overweight, middle aged man with a large moustache. Flash didn't recognise him but he spoke as if they were old friends "I was beginning to worry you wouldn't come"

The words he spoke sounded innocent enough but the way he said then was what set Flash on edge.

"But I was right to trust that you would figure out the clues, after all you're both very smart boys- just not smart enough to tell anyone you're coming"

Flash felt Peter tense next to him but Flash felt numb. What the hell what the guy saying?

"What do you want with us?" Peter asked as his eyes flitted around the room, looking for a possible escape.

"Me? Oh I just want to talk"

"Fine let's talk" Peter said "Who are you? what clues?"

"You don't need to know my name isn't very important. And the clues we left all around the place. Honestly I'm surprised you aren't here sooner we did leave rather a lot of them."

"You wanted to draw us here. Why?"

Flash knew the answer but it didn't sink in until the man said it aloud.

"To kill you of course" The man laughed- his laugh didn't sound evil or crazy- it was just, normal. And that almost scared Flash more then the death threat. This man wasn't crazy. He was serious. Dead serious.

The two teenagers would probably win a fight against this guy. Peter obviously fought so because he stuck his wrist out at the man, but before he could shoot a web a gun was pointed straight between his eyes.

"Let's not get ahead of ourselves" he chuckled "I'm not going to kill you just yet"

"Why not kill us right now?" Flash said, sounding braver then he actually was.

"I'm waiting for a couple of friends to join us"

Flash couldn't see any way of escape. The man was on the other side of the room, they would never be able to reach him without being killed.

"In the meantime please put your weapons on the floor" He said in a cheerful manner "we wouldn't want any accidents happening. Would we now"

There was no other option, Flash and Peter slid the web shooters off their wrists and dropped them on the floor.
The sound of them hitting the ground echoed around the abandoned Wearhouse.

"Why do you want to kill us?" Flash asked.

"Well I don't particularly care if I kill you or not Eugene. It's your friend I'm interested in."

"Should I thank you?"

"You see I really, really want to kill Mr Parker over here"

Peter grit his teeth "you didn't answer the question"

"Hold on I'm getting there. I want to kill you because Spiderman is the easiest way to get to the avengers. A stepping stone if you like. They care for him, he's a part of their sick, little family.

The Avengers have gone unopposed for far to long, they have murdered, destroyed and brought fear wherever they go. They're to powerful and they need to be stopped."

Peter was silent for a few seconds. He seemed remarkably calm for someone who was just told he and his family would be killed. Eventually he said. "That's the dumbest fucking thing I've ever heard. You're completely stupid"

The man chuckled again, Flash would rather he was a mad man and shouted at them. The chuckling was unnerving. "Young man if I was stupid how do you think I've set this whole thing up? I've controlled every little thing. Every tiny detail. And you've fallen right into my trap. Right where I want you"

"What do you mean?" Flash asked.

"I knew Peter was Spiderman because he doesn't to much to hide it once I knew Spider-Man's identity I could creat a plan.
I anticipated that you'll find that code in your parents office, I knew that Eugene would be the first person you interacted with after being hit with the weapon, I knew you would go to Stark Tower. But most importantly I knew you would figure out the code tonight and come straight here without telling anyone because they would try and stop you"

Peter clenched his fist, Flash didn't blame him, the man was infuriating. "How could you possibly know that?" He asked through gritted teeth.

"My dear boy, I am everywhere" he chuckled infuriatingly again "well my people are, it's surprising how much information people will give up for so little money. Also there's a bug in Eugene's phone we can see and here exactly what he sees and hears. I must say you have an excellent taste in fanf-"

Flash quickly cut him of "well one person isn't going to stop the Avengers, they're the avengers"

The man smiled "well you see" the door opened and five dark figures glided in. "I'm not alone"

The figures stepped into the light and Flash could see their faces clearly. And he almost collapsed. He felt confused, angry, betrayed and overwhelmed at the same time. A million different thoughts shot through his head all at once.

No.
It couldn't be.
There was a mistake.
There HAS to be
