It's a fairly long chapter so make sure you have time to read it! I wouldn't pause half way if I were you... Add the story into your library or follow me for notifications of when I updated the story... or do both! :) My favourite character is finally introduced in this chapter! xxx Mona

I told them everything. Well, almost everything. I told them about what and who I was, what my species are like, what they can do and how they survive. I told them how we need other souls to survive because we did not have our own. I told them that without a soul, you are good as dead. I left out how I had killed so many people; I would wait to tell them more when they were ready. When I had finished talking, they just stared at me with blank faces. “You have got to be kidding” I heard Elena mumble. There was only so much a person could handle about things like this in one day. Humans were always stubborn. They believed in logic and that there was no such thing as supernatural creatures. For a human to suddenly be exposed to this kind of knowledge, it can be too much to handle. I knew that by them asking to know the truth, they’d be putting themselves in danger. Knowledge can be powerful, but also deadly. Just before I had told them all about me, I had warned them but they didn’t put my warning into thought. I had given in to their anger and as I said; told them pretty much everything they needed to know. Minutes had passed and nobody had said another word. Finally, I was fed up with the silence. “You two should go home. When you’re ready to speak to me, call me. It’d be best if we could meet each other all together.” The girls just kept staring but I saw that the words had registered in their mind. “Just remember your promise.” When I said that, both of them nodded simultaneously. With those last few words, I left the party.

“DAMNIT” I yelled. I kicked a nearby tree. It shook and started to lean over to one side. Swearing under my breath, I quickly walked away. I got in my car and dialed a number. “I need to blow off some steam, meet me at the warehouse in 5.” I hung up the phone and threw it onto the passenger seat. I really needed to hit someone or at least something. I stepped my foot onto the gas pedal and sped off to the warehouse. When I pulled my car to a stop in front of the house but none of the lights were on. I was about to leave when I saw a dark figure lurking in the shadows. I stepped out of the car feeling the slightest bit better. “For a second I thought you didn’t come.” I said trying to stay calm. I heard a low laugh and he said “Given your mood, I almost didn’t.” Troy stepped out of the shadows. I smiled at him and gave him a short lived hug. He was my oldest friend who I’ve known for more than two centuries. He had black hair, was about 6’4 and had dark blue eyes that almost looked black. We were born in the same year and our parents were closer friends as well. If it weren’t for his blue eyes, we could pass as brothers. “Man, I haven’t seen you in years.” He said. “I decided to come back to town. It’s been awhile, I was starting to miss it here.” He gave me another hug and said “Well next time you disappear for 30 years, at least tell me. You could’ve at least texted me and told me that you weren’t dead.” I started to laugh. “Why Hadfield, you’re growing quite the emotions aren’t you?” I laughed even harder “And since when was I known for dying?” This time, we both laughed together. I had always been the one out of us two that liked to get into trouble. That was a big deal considering that Troy always got into fights as well. I had left Sire City for awhile because I decided that I needed a fresh start in life where there was a larger population, a place I’ve never been and a place where nobody knew who or what I was. I had moved to LA California for 30 years. I made friends there, had a good life until I needed to switch locations. Being immortal made me age slowly. I aged and grew like a normal human would until I hit 18. Then every couple of centuries I would age a year older. But when I hit 25 years old, I would stop aging and that’s why Faded Shadows are considered immortal. Once we hit a certain age, we stop growing older. The reason why I was able to pull off the look of a 17 year old was because I had always looked younger than I actually was. No pun intended. Currently I am only a bit over 300 years old; 346 to be exact. My parents didn’t look a day over 25; and they’ve been living centuries. Unlike humans, we can reproduce at no matter what age so we could be thousands of years old and still have a newborn. Being a Faded Shadow has so many pros but there are also flaws. Like every good predator, they have to stay hidden from their prey. In a world among humans, we have to always live in secrecy. My people want to change that, but it’ll be very difficult to convince thousands of Faded Shadows around the world in agreeing to expose our kind. So for now, we live amongst the humans in secrecy, with only humans who are close to us that have the knowledge of our existence. Or if it is accidently exposed... then they know too... “So what’s up? Why so angry?” Troy asked me as he leaned on the poles of the warehouse. It was an abandoned old warehouse but when Troy and I found it, it had just been evacuated. We decided to keep the inside of the house neat and comforting while letting the outsides of the house ware down. Every few years, we would patch up a bit of the house so that we could maintain it for years more. So the outside looked like a ruin and the inside was neatly furnished with electricity and all; like a normal home. It had been our hang out place for a long time so that it became a tradition to go there almost every night. Now that I was back in town, I decided to restart that tradition. First thing that I needed to do was fill in what had been happening these few days to Troy. When I finished talking, the moon was already halfway in the sky. Troy blew out a long whistle, I rolled my eyes. “You seriously screwed up this time.” “Wow thanks, I had no idea.” I sighed sarcastically. Troy’s laughter dimmed and said “You gotta be more careful man. Are you sure you can trust them?” I gave blew out a breath and replied with “They gave me their word. You know how much somebody’s word means to me. If they break it, there’ll be consequences.” Troy started to nod and said “Do you really have the guts to do it?” I looked at him questioningly. “To condemn them with a consequence if they break their promise.” He clarified. I pondered on the thought and said “If I must.” And just like that he smiled again. “You up for some ass kicking?” I grinned “That’s what I came for.” Troy and I used to go out hunting for immortals who threatened our kind. We didn’t need to hunt down any of them but it sort of became our shared hobby. It let us burn off some emotions and got to eliminate any kind of threat to our kind. The only things we ever brought were our fists and a hunting knife that we rarely used. We usually preferred fist to fist combat but if it came to using the knife, we didn’t hesitate. Occasionally we took our kill in as a snack but usually just left them for their kind to find. We will take out those who dare pose a threat for our kind and showed that Faded Shadows are the superiors. Off the start the hunt, a familiar anger burned on the inside of me as we ran through trees with the wind in our faces. The dim moonlight lit the path and it was enough for us to see through the forests. Stopping to a halt we both sensed another creature among us. It was a vampire.
